Manhua applies to any Chinese produced comic. Back then they resemble newspaper cartoon strips and marvel shit for action genre, most are crap though. I'd be expecting better things to come out of Taiwan than the mainland.

I don't know, I don't read that much manhua but from what I've come across they don't look like manga clones. Take the Ravages of Time for example, the characters' faces don't look particularly like any typical manga characters. It's drawn in a realistic fashion ala Vagabond but with much cleaner looking art. In my opinion you can't really slap a 'Japanese style' on the whole comic market since there are artists like Junji Ito and Yoshihiro Tatsumi. In the end style depends on the artist.
