Is there anything out there that comes even remotely close to being as disturbingly beautiful as Saya no Uta? I can't even begin to describe this work but it was just so good. I sort of feel like I did when I first watched Eva, only instead of just my thoughts being all screwed up, my entire concepts of morality, beauty, and life are fucked. Jesus.

Finished Saya no Uta. And it was really, really average.

95% of the cast was completely unlike-able, the exceptions being Saya herself and Kouji. The plot wasn't all that good, though it did have it's moments. The resolution was either extremely stupid or doesn't resolve much at all, depending on which you take.

That said, I didn't hate it. It was interesting enough to keep me reading, but it never wowed me or made me experience any emotion at all, for that matter. The sad moments never effected me, and the 'intense' moments made me go meh. Everything is pretty much forgettable.

No, your taste is just plain shit. Just kidding, I thought that Saya no Uta was pretty decent, but nothing that would deserve an 8 or a 9. +Music similar to War of the Worlds (I can like western stuff too)
+This paralleled a lot of visuals, worked well, Don't know if intentional
+Choices presented were pivotal, It was simple and worked
+Would challenge most people perceptions of morality (Not mine for I am Ubermensch but I can understand peoples trippedness)

-Felt overly emotionally manipulative at times
-Predictable as all hell (+1 for rational behind Yuo being allowed to continuing to exist -.5 for it kind of pulling me out of Fuminori's head space)

Bottom line; Species meets War of the Worlds with 50% less implied vore Original Eva... Third Impact still shits over everything in the history of man kind (Aside from maybe [S]Cascade)... is still better. But if you want something that has the potential to get into your head this might make your motor run.

I feel like the VN focused much more on the two possible views of the relationship between Saya and Fuminori. One side being a grotesque and nasty relationship between a man that has gone crazy and a monster. The other, the love between a man and an angel that has rescued him from complete madness. That concept itself is really interesting, but I feel like Urobuchi tried too hard to create a shock value sometimes, such as when it was discovered that Fuminori was becoming a cannibal.

A post on 2ch I read once compared Saya no Uta to the revival/rebirth part of the Phoenix manga by Tezuka (well, compared is a pretty nice way of saying, "ripped off" might be more precise).

>Resurrection
>(復活編 fukkatsu-hen) The sixth volume, originally serialized in 1970-1971. The story takes place in 2482-3344 AD. In an age of robotics, technology and science, young Leon dies in a car accident. He is returned to life by scientific surgery, but his now mostly-artificial brain makes him see living things -- including humans -- as distorted clay figures, while he sees machines and robots as beauties. Leon falls in love with a worker robot, Chihiro, whom he sees as a beautiful girl, and will fight for this forbidden love. He will also find out the secret behind his accident. A side plot features the robot Robita, who previously appeared in Future.
