Sorechiru is unfinished with routes that end up being half-assed as hell.
But the common part is extremely long and filled with Jackson goodness so it's definitely worth reading just for it.
The complete edition had a voice for the protagonist (milleage may vary but I didn't really like it), upgrade the resolution, add some new CGs (some are pretty nice since they weren't designed by Nishimata) and routes for 2 heroines/some new scenes to complete the plot, but the added stuff is garbage not written by Jackson so who care.
If you skip through the newly added stuff (only a few scenes during the common part so it's not that hard) then you can just go and play the complete edition, if you can turn a blind eye to the unfinished plot Sorechiru is really good.

I enjoyed KS. It was my first VN and the only one I have played for over a year up until 2 weeks ago when I tried YMK, which was disappointing in comparison. Don't get me wrong. Nekoko was cute and all but I didn't really feel much emotion throughout the game.

So when you've all finished hating me for being a stereotypical KSfag, I'd like it if someone recommended another VN for me. One of those VNs that will destroy you emotionally perhaps.

Just finished Reminiscence's trial. It's pretty good.

Looks like it's deeply related to Akatsuki no Goei. The protag has a similar 'power' to Kaito and his oneesan looks like Reika, I guess he's an offspring/distant descendant. Not to mention Kizuna waking up from cold sleep. Also there's a bound and gagged up guy in the op that looks like Kaito.

Unfortunately it's not as fun as Akatsuki no Goei, there is no troll meido for one. There's is a troll android meido but she doesn't come close to Tsuki. There is no Reika either.

It looks like this one has a proper plot though. Unlike Kaito, the protagonist is in a position where he can enact change.
Also, it looks like there's going to be serious drama this time around. He's hinted to have a horrible past that caused his imouto to be yandere to him. I bet he used to rape his imouto, there's this aura of awkwardness between them.

Well it's been long hinted that it's related since Yuuki and Kizuna is in the game. The trial just confirms that they're the exact same characters from Akatsuki no Goei.

It's set 150~200 years in the future though so I don't think any other characters would appear. I'm surprised when Kaito appeared in the OP. But I don't think he's still alive, he probably did something in the past that ended up becoming a major plot point or something.

I've been reading more of subahibi lately and I decided to actually start on Looking Glass Insects. I kind of thought it was weird that Takuji suddenly beats the shit out of all of those people but it made me think about one thing. Is the reason Tomosane doesn't really appear in this chapter or the first one because he and Takuji are the same person? This would explain several things and would go along with how he keeps changing personalities so much. Of course I'm probably completely wrong with this thought, but this would make a really interesting twist.

I've been playing this otome game called Hana Awase after hearing some good things about it, but I'm not impressed. The presentation is gorgeous as fuck, but the melodramatic romance is making me cringe and I can't say I give a damn about the plot. I've only finished main guy's route so far though which is supposed to be the only happy one. Apparently the others are full of misery and suffering, so that might make things more interesting.
MC-chan's pink haired friend is in desperate need of a route since she's the most likable character by far and clearly wants to munch that carpet.

Also there's this Hanafuda minigame in it, and I have to say it has to be one of my favorite inclusions of a minigame in a VN that comes to mind. I spent hours putting off advancing the story just to play it. There are two or three more games planned for the series and I'll gladly give those a shot too if they improve on/up the difficulty of the game.

I'm planning on starting Gakhtun or Gun Knight Girl afterwards.

Same, The majority of the disappointment I had with it probably stems from all the praise I'd heard for it beforehand, so I went in expecting too much. I'm going for Iroha next. Hime looks ok too, but I have enough experience with otomege to know that the guys who are really nice from the get go are usually fucked up in some way.

Are there VN's with full furigana option, not just for technical or made up terms? You know, like in children's books. I'm tired of having to look up how several kanji is pronounced differently, especially when it's a narration or the voiceless protag speaking.

Yeah same here. Black Wolves Saga is probably the only otome game that I would say "it was pretty good" instead of "it was pretty good for an otome game". They recently released a PSP game in that series which apparently focuses on everyone's good side instead of politics etc. I have the ISO downloaded but I haven't played it yet. It also has a route for the two shota dogs which is the main reason I was looking forward to it.
I love Quinrose protagonists but a combination of bad art and sub-par heroes make what could be great games mediocre. Really a shame since they provide a much needed break from the worst female protagonists in existence (every Otomate girl).

The PSP one is good too. I've played through half the routes of it and it's not actually different at all from Bloody Nightmare in terms of tone. There's still a lot of talk about politics and the wolf/cat conflict, only mainly from the wolves' POV this time. Rath gets a ton of focus(as expected) and Auger is still as much of a bastard as ever, which was great since I was worried his character would be watered down for the sake of romance. I wasn't too excited about the shota puppies at first since they didn't leave much of an impression on me in the first game, but they turned out great.
The gender of the crossdressing one confused me for ages. Why the hell does he wear a bra?

Excellent taste. I finished BWS up recently myself and walked away from it feeling thoroughly satisfied. I wouldn't say it was perfect, but it would definitely be up there with the best of them. It's the only otoge I can say that I actually like, really. The conflict between the cats and wolves was actually explored and not done in a half assed way like you'd initially expect from an otoge, the characterization for the most part was worthy of praise (specifically, the cats), and Fiona was pretty darn likable and didn't feel out of place.

Oh, really? That kind of ups my motivation to play it. I remember before it was released I was really worried about them ruining some of the characters (mainly Guillan and Auger) just to make things more lighthearted.

Fiona was good because the focus wasn't on her constantly, and the majority of the guys either didn't fall for her right off the bat or wanted her for reasons other than love. Also it was hard not to feel for her when her life was pretty damn miserable.

A little bit of info on Last Hope: It's actually a complete retelling of the story and not a continuation of Bloody Nightmare. It starts with Fiona meeting/being kidnapped by Rath and travelling with him for a while(as opposed to being taken to the cats' palace in BN), and it later splits off into branching paths for the wolves, cats and humans.

I'd say it only barely has more romance than the first game, and you definitely don't have to worry about Auger suddenly getting lovey dovey. Julian and Guillan both show up but they don't have routes. Shota puppies and Elza(lion guy)now do have routes.

There are actually tons of great artists who've done art for otome games. Pako, Kazuaki, Ginka, Maeda Hirotaka, Hidari, Hanamura Mai, Sarachi Yomi, etc. Heck even Redjuice is doing the art for an upcoming one.

A lot of the problem is Otomate are responsible for a large chunk of the otome games out there, and they like to get other artists to rip off Kazuki Yone's style a lot of the time. So it looks like there's a lot of sameface copypasta with otome games when there's actually a fair bit of variety. It seems like they're learning though. The art for Shiratsuyu no Kai looks good.

The reason why Quinrose still refuse to hire good artists is beyond me though. They could do so much better.

Something that always bugged me about Otomate games is the designs themselves. They're just so over-the-top. And something about the hair always looks off. Yet they release something new practically every month so I end up playing most of their games. But like you said, lately they seem to be improving. The one you posted looks good. And I thought their most recent one, Issho ni Gohan, was pretty good in the art department. I just wish more artists could do "normal" looking heroes. Like the girl versions of the TokiMemo games. Recently read Eustia, very surprised, while maintaining a generally upbeat tone, it still manages to have a extremely serious narration, devoid of melodrama (trace amounts in CH2) and black/white morality. The entire cast likeable since they had very logical and understandable motivations and actions. The chapter structure finely paced the mystery and created a satisfying conclusion. The only problem I have with the story is its length, too short for a story of this scale.
This really gave me a good impression of August soft, though I've heard that this work is significantly better than their previous efforts, so I cannot decide whether to read August's other VNs or not. Anyone have some suggestions?

It's insane/crazy with tons of stuff happening and you an slowly piece the story bit by bit.
The beginning just throws you like, a month after the story started and you are left not even knowing left from right. I really like it, really colorful and the writing is impressive.
Other VNs from LS that tend to have good reputation are
Kusarihime: great atmosphere mix of horror and thriller, surprisingly well developed characters, by the author of Forest. Falls a bit flat by the ending buyt still a good read.
The steampunk series: these come in several flavours, but mall of them save for Inganock are quite female oriented, but can be enjoyed by all. They have this really melancholic feel to them and then just varies to what the plot is, Inganock is really episodic with some plot at the end, still really vague while things like Sona nyl or Sharnoth have constant plot development and are a lot more straightforward, Gakhtun is more standard, but still good. The overall setting is pretty intrincate but they are more about the cast.

It probably meant that it took significantly longer than 24hr of constant play to finish a route. If the battle system was great it would have been better to reduce the battle frequency and instead unlock more battles at x difficultly or by player choice.

Another anon who decided to try out Oretsuba. Just finished the Prelude and so far I'm really liking the general atmosphere and the heroines are also lovely. As far as protagonists go, I'm currently preferring comedic Shuusuke over brooding Hayato though both of their prologues were really enjoyable. Would dive right into the main game if Kinako didn't keep reminding me to study all the time god damn it.

Someone suggested this game to me and so far it is pretty good. Nice character designs, good music, decent heroines, and laid back.

This made me realize how spoiled I am with all the 720p games that come out. I don't usually play games on full screen but I almost have to.
