To all the idiots in this thread that got 288, go back to school.

48 ÷ 2(9+3) = x

First thing to do is to GET RID of the brackets; start by doing what's in the brackets:
48 ÷ 2(12) = x

Now here's where most of you fucktards go wrong. You simplified what was in the brackets but the brackets are STILL there and you CANNOT just rewrite it as:
48 ÷ 2 * (12) = x (ABSOLUTELY WRONG)

To get rid of the brackets, you must to break up the brackets by multiplying the number in front; this is the DISTRIBUTIVE PROPERTY. You do not just rewrite an equation to get rid of parenthesis because that's just bullshit, wrong and not how math works at all. Multiplying breaks up and ELIMINATES the brackets:
48 ÷ 24 = x

Now that the brackets are gone and that there are no exponents other than to the first power, you can carry on with dividing:
2 = x

Therefore:
x = 2

This has nothing to do with PEMDAS, BEDMAS, BIDMAS, BODMAS, people putting multiplication before division and doing so is wrong anyway.

TL;DR: Answer is 2 and you are a dumbass if you get 288 or think it's 2 because you believe multiplying comes before division.
