What worries me is that I might not be the same person I am now. Japan is for the most part an ordinary country. Maybe I'd grow into a normal. I'd like to move to Japan, and being born there would certainly make that task easier. But nerds are a minority and there's a considerably larger chance you'd end up with a wife and a family. I don't want to live such a life.

I've schooled in south-east asia when I was young, so I think I can imagine how the school life would be like. There were lots of slant-eyed koreans in the class. Every school basically had their own community of koreans. The korean girls were very cute. I didn't have much interest in girls by that young age, I would spend most of recess with my head resting on my arms on my desk. Sometimes I would draw war scenarios from a birds-eye view. I've always been pretty bad at drawing, so it didn't look like much. It was however enjoyable. I would mostly draw tank battles.

I'm not too sure I wouldn't prefer that. I really hate my native country's school system. I'm not joking when I say that oral presentations, group work and class interaction are the meat of its education system. I can't remember seeing any anime where a single student holds an oral presentation in front of the whole class. I'd love to trade away all this bullshit with simple rote memorization, which seems to be the basis of east-asian education.

Now I feel sad as my life could have been a lot easier if I in fact were born in east Asia. Right now I'm a dropout. I live off my leftover student loans that I somehow have to repay. I'm regularly hit with depression whenever I get reminded of the uncertainty of my future. I just want a simple job so I can stop worrying about the future and concentrate all my free time on my hobbies.

No, it still is. The official restrictions have been cut back but parents are still sending their kids to cram schools and such to get competitive advantage. A kid is competing not against other kids who are just in his school, but kids who are doing lots of extra work outside of school, and so he has to match it or do better.
