I've just learned that Sakuya isn't present in UFO onwards. Instead, we get yet another shrine maiden but with green color this time, Sanae. This is a thread dedicated to the memory of the best selectable character Touhou series had to date.

You were always dependable and the only reason to come back to 1CC the games, but apparently that's not the case anymore as your place was taken over by a green version of Reimu. We had a good run, but all good things must come to an end I guess. You will always be my perfect and elegant maid.

Anyway, you'll be happy to know that in the most recent game, Ten Desires, both shrine maidens and Marisa are joined once again by a silver-haired servant who uses edged weapons as playable characters.

Her role was not "taken over", her story in PoFV confirmed that she would not be investigating any more incidents because she was getting tired of it.

She left the stage, she was not forced out. Sanae only came in by TH12, when Sakuya was already gone for two games.

Hey, don't be like that.

Everything can radically change without warning in the fantastic and plotholish world of Gen Sou Kyou. Even if Sakuya said she wouldn't be investigating any more incidents, its all just a matter of ZUN feeling like pulling out of his ass whatever excuse he invents to reintegrate her into the playable cast.

1. Remilia ordered her to investigate the incident. Because.
2. She willingly steps into the fry to win a certain prize as a gift for her Mistress.
∞. The incident can threat the daily grind at the SDM, so she went to investigate against her will.

The problem is not plot-wise, the problem is about ZUN wanting her back.
