/jp/ is a slow board, you don't have to bump your thread so often since the user base is using a catalog, only shitposter-kun is browsing between pages.

I have japanese friends on skype. I'm friends with a 39 year old housewife that's learning english. I also have a japanese 16 year old schoolgirl in my contacts too, but she never answers. And I also have a 40 year old otaku that spends his whole day playing some Gundam online game.

I found one on japan-guide a year and a half ago and we're still writing back and forth via email. It helped with my reading speed and informal communication, but that's about it. She did send me a Christmas card with a bunch of photos, which was nice, even though it arrived in mid-January last year.

I have two Japanese friends on Skype who speaks fluent English.

One loves anime so it's pretty easy to talk to him.

The other one tries to teach me Japanese and tells me if I keep watching anime, I'll end up dying alone.

OP here. Did it help you learn Japanese?

It would probably help me if I wasn't such an apathetic and demotivated person

No, not really. I mean, everyday speech doesn't use terribly complicated grammar, so nothing new there, and any vocabulary I had to look up I immediately forgot. I have my Japanese classes for learning Japanese, my penpal for learning how to talk like a real person. Like how you might hear a non-native English speaker asking, "In what location is your domicile?" rather than, "Where do you live?" The same sort of thing applies to informal speech; it's more than just using plain form.

I don't think it's a matter of motivation or enthusiasm. In my opinion, the matter of neccessity or gain comes first. After those two have been assessed in a situation, motivation and enthusiasm should follow accordingly.

>> No.10368062

I don't have any interest in talking to Japanese people that way. I'd like to eventually be able to discuss things on 2ch maybe, but that's about it. I don't like to communicate in more personal contexts like a penpal would necessitate.
