Anyone else obsessed with reading the archive?

I find myself following arguments and trends from years ago with more interest than whatever's going on here now...

Obscure tripfags are fun to look up. See when they last posted. Wonder where they went.

It's my hobby...

Anyway I was doing this earlier when I suddenly had an idea.
After a little searching, I found a post I made on /jp/ in March 2008.
Almost 5 years...
For some reason, reading it made me feel really sad. I don't know why. Half a decade. I sat and stared at the screen for about 10 minutes, spacing out. Reading the replies. The scariest(?) part is, I could remember a few of them word for word.

Anyway. If you get bored refreshing the front page you should go refresh the last pages of the archive, it can be really fun. Though it naturally contains many cringeworthy memories for us all I'm very grateful we have it.

This thread fuuka.warosu.org/jp/thread/S296485

It's not interesting, and quite embarrassing now because in 2008 I was a total faggot (you don't have to tell me), but there you go.

I did actually study Japanese in the end by the way, but dropped out after a year. Naturally.

I want to go back to those times when life was a cozy blanket of rewatching Rozen Maiden, playing doujin games and halfheartedly dreaming about the future whilst not actually caring about it at all

How pathetic, for an old timer to get nostalgic...

I like reading the archive. But I do it mostly to find more fun material to look up around. I have probably more than 100 /jp/ threads on the archive bookmarked on my browser. My favorite period is 2009 though. Everything felt much more comfortable at that time.

I shall be reading this very post several years from now in the archive.
And so shall you!

I shall put the word flamingo in my post so I can easily search it later.

Wonder what I will be doing in several years.
Probably still here on /jp/ and 4chan.
Wonder what the future will be like. Wonder what the next Touhou game will be like. Wonder if I will finally get around to doing all those things I want to do and write. Wonder if I will be fluent in Japanese by then, as I am currently learning now yet far from fluent.
As future me looks back at this post, I wonder what he will think. I wonder what he will think about my past wonders, and how I looked toward the future and newest Touhous with wonder, interest, and optimism.
For the record and future me, I am currently eating shin ramyun with frozen vegetable in a dark and messy apartment. I am a little drunk from wine. Think I'll go watch a movie now.

Well, to future me, I say:

My friend at the time always sent me funny pictures hosted on 4chan. Noticed the URL, decided to check out 4chan.org one rainy day. Expected it to be just another image hosting site like photobucket. Early 2006 kinda time. Didn't really understand the site until about a year later. Creating threads was extremely intimidating.

I clearly remember knowing about 4chan before that but I never came to 4chan at all. I only use /jp/ and /ck/ because I am obsessed with looking at pictures of tasty food as well as talking about it. I came to /jp/ on summer 2011... /a/ was just unbearable. Katawa shoujo put the board in a really bad situation and it only got worse with summer cups and crossboard roleplay... Not to mention that I had left /v/ in 2010 for almost the same reasons, they go on and on about reddit and trolls and greentext and ugh... At least /jp/ knows how to treat those newfags properly... The board is really slow and I hate that but I love talking about anime when a brave anon decided to make a thread about it. Looking back at those times, /jp/ really looked like a brave new world. I got pretty used to it. It also helps that I already knew a lot of people that I met through /v/ steam profile exchange threads as well as people on irc and a trao i met on /b/ of all places who browsed /jp/ so I got in the know of all the things I needed to know. You guys complain alot about shitposting but this is probably the best board in 4chan. Though I guess /q/ killed the shitposting before I got a chance to witness it?

And I didn't give a shit about them. Now I feel so bad because I've missed all of these wonderful chances and I wasn't able to witness so many things... I wish I could go back in time. Good to know I'm not the only one.

Despite all the shit we like to give moot here on /jp/, to be honest, I agree with almost every point he makes when he speaks about 4chan and Anonymous communities... EXCEPT for his idea that a community should not only Anonymous but also "ephemeral" to be good. I love having an archive so I can go back and relive moments from the past. I'd give ANYTHING to have an archive of the first 10 million posts of /b/, so I could go back and read posts from when I first started using 4chan in 2004 - 2005... In my case, I'd already been here for years and pretty much developed my own posting style(s) by the time /jp/ was made, so my old posts here don't really surprise me when I go back and read them. But if I could see the stuff I posted on /b/ back in the day, oh man...

I'd like to debate in depth someday with someone who supports the ephemeral = good viewpoint, because I still can't quite wrap my head around why moot thinks that way.

>> No.10358506,6 [INTERNAL]
