Soultaker was amazing, you(and well, almost everyone who watched it) only thought it sucked because you saw a shitty VHS copy that removed what made it great.

Watch it again, ignore the "plot", the plot doesn't matter.

It still looks awesome after all these years - the visuals were way ahead of its time, and it's great silly fun.

The art is amazing. Just because it's "covered in shadows" doesn't mean shit. It's detailed, cohesive, well-designed, and laid out with composition in mind unlike most of the stuff in that era.

It's leagues above almost everything from around that time and a couple years more, save for few gems.

But the thing is, shitty broadcast quality and even worse VHS medium meant that most of the detail was lost, and for contemporary viewers it was just a barely legible display of colors and shadow.

It's one of the most underrated titles out there, partly because of the poor video quality of its time, and partly because most viewers don't really care about the artistry that goes into cinematography in anime.

Also: Nanoha >>> A's >>>(...)>>> Strikers.

The first because of the director, the second because Strikers is such a joke I couldn't believe it was even made by the same people as A's the first time I watched it.

I still say it was kinda 2deep4me in both art and plot but I do like popoyon's art, which along with the OP, is the only reason I could finish it. Too bad I don't like it enough to watch *monogatari or the popotan anime (Though I played the game)

I always read complaints about strikers but I liked it the most of the nanoha anime,

It's one of the few shows I've seen featuring a comprehensive futuristic magic combat system, and of those the only one I actually liked. I think one of the positives of the show was that its setting has so much potential for derivative works and spinoffs (a potential that has yet to be realized, since vivid and that other manga were both shit from what I've read).

Strikers also produced two of the most beautiful women in anime, if I had to give one reason for enjoying the show it would be Nanoha.
