Why do people use tripcodes when it isn't needed? Do they want attention? Do they want a reputation? Why do you seek those things on /jp/ knowing the majority will hate you for doing so? Perhaps you like the attention regardless if it's hate or love? I don't understand what goes through the heads of these people.

Go to (>>>/q/) to discuss this.

You're going to be able to tell that a given poster's shitty posts are shitty by reading them if they're shitty. By helpfully adding something to the namefield, posters are able to filter or otherwise preemptively ignore these posts that they will inevitably dislike. By adding a tripcode, they help head off the basest level of "lol i suck dicks" idiocy.

Some citations from its posters:
>nice.../q/ is a pretty goodboard. one anon hangs on textboards, surprised about that >>>/vip/ though. fk ... gotta see how active it is. /j/ has zero shitposting mind you.

"what's your home board and next board" thread:

You're not doing a very good job of it. Here's some tips on being more annoying:

Pick a better name, something that would pass as a first name. Preferably if it's from an anime or something.

Make the tripcode a part of your name, not just a random string of characters.

Use smileys excessively. Also unicode characters.

Often post with an image.

I think that's it for now, can't think of anything else.

Tom, I love you and have for quite some time.
While I didn't want to say anything at first to be polite and kind, I too disliked the fact that you adorned a trip. I think you were much better without it. While yes, those of ill will might impersonate you, you should stand strong. There is only one true Tom.
I am glad to see you back to normal without your trip. I feel that things are truly better this way. It's good to have you here, Tom.
