This is called "being coherent in your writing".

Shit tier writers write something like "Naruto is a hated person in his village" and then ignore it forever, right from the start.

Decent writers write something like "Flandre lives in the basement most of the time" and then REMEMBER IT. Likewise, Meiling's duty requires her to be at one place all the time.

The only oddity would be Patchouli, but then we learn that her official duty is "to solve and cause problems in the SDM". Which then explains why sometimes she stops doing what she likes to do and leaves to interact with people.

Koakuma was a non-character that fandom literally wished into official existance. It doesn't means ZUN has to actively think about her. She'll forever exist as decoration around the library, as needed.

So, get this at once:
1) Remilia: Is a social being, that likes to go on adventures and throw parties.
2) Sakuya: Is Remilia's right hand (wo)man, that additionally has lots of errands to run. NO WONDER SHE KEEPS APPEARING.
3) Patchouli: Would rather remain inside, but has to work as a troubleshooter from time to time. NO WONDER SHE KEEPS APPEARING.
4) Flandre: Always in the basement. All the time.
5) Meiling: Keeping watch by the gate.
6) Koa: who?

1, 2 and 3 appear constantly. 4 and 5 doesn't. And be glad that 6 even exists on some backgrounds.

You misunderstand. While the difference in number of appearance bothers me, I am quite aware of WHY there is such a difference in the first place.

Of course I would like it if Flandre/Meiling/Koa were to pop up more, but it's not like I'm stamping my feet and having a temper tantrum because ZUN isn't shoehorning them into more things.

No need to be a cunt about it.

Eh see, Tima is an excellent feel-good artist, but her works are on the very fanon side of the fandom. It's cute and heartwarming to pretend that there's something resembling functional family dynamics in the SDM. I can appreciate those feel-good stories just as any other fan (picture related) at the same time that I'm glad that Flandre's personality and dangerous nature is not being diluted by ZUN's catering to the moe-bandwagon.

This is not an incoherent position. I love the characters Flandre and Remilia. I like seeing them like happy sisters in fanworks, and I like never seeing one of them in the official works.

But enough talk, have some Bat-Flan.

Oh man!

Yukari is so cool! I mean, purely aesthetically speaking, she's already got so much going for her! Her gap powers are distinct and interesting. You can do so much with just that alone! Do they lead to some eldritch realm? Is she some kind of horror from beyond the veil? Or if you're sticking to comedic styled themes, she's just a crazy-old youkai that likes dicking around all day. Her past, her powers, her entire being is ripe with the potential for stories and intrigue!

Ran is an oft-overlooked character whose intrigue mostly comes from her relationship with Yukari; what brought these two together? A lot of really interesting doujins go into that. Of course, she's also a rather heartwarming character. Fanon or not, seeing her dote on her little youkai underling is adorable!

Chen, of course, needs no introduction! Those strangely humorous comics written by that artist whose name I can't FUCKING REMEMBER GODDAMNIT have all but guaranteed her place in the spotlight! Mostly she's just used for light hearted antics, but she's got a serious side to her, too! Although I haven't read any doujins depicting such lately, so, that's unfortunate

Of course, the Yakumo family as a whole proves to be amazing in tons of different ways. Heartwarming, terrifying, calculating, they can be used in tons of ways!

My personal favorite depiction of them is when they're being cute. Ran doting on Chen, Yukari lazily screwing around, and more make this family really memorable

There's also a nice friendship thing going between Remilia and Patchouli, but no official arrows between anybody else. Sakuya is professionaly servile to Patchouli and Patchouli regards Sakuya as an annoyance. Meiling seems to just work there.

BAiJR shows that Remilia and Flandre have a relationship pretty much as normal siblings, which is surprisingly good given the circunstances, but then Flandre just remains unseen most of the time.

So! The intrigue that is Chireiden!

Satori and Koishi are by themselves totally awesome yet tragic characters. Being forced into seclusion, being what amounts to lonely crazy cat people, all that stuff makes them rife with the potential for depressing chords to be played on one's heartstrings

Their powers are really neat! I love Koishi's in particular. While Satori has her more familiar mindreading, Koishi's ability to delve into and manipulate the subconscious is really interesting. I will have to make a separate post depicting what I felt was the most fascinating usage of her powers I've yet read

The awesome that is Utsuho could fill a good few articles! Visually, there's just no one like her, and nuclear warning signs with their accompanying sirens blaring never fail to bring her to mind. That's the mark of absolute success as far as aesthetics go! And her BACKSTORY! Going mad with divine power bestowed upon her by a scheming goddess? It's a gold mine for any /tg/er to dig into

Orin, to me, has always felt most interesting when she's portrayed as a helpless bystander. Watching her friend go bonkers right in front of her in SA, sensing the sadness of her people (I refuse to say masters!) and resolving to try to help that in her own little way in At Chirei, and so forth

Fuck, this is going to be two posts long

The family as a whole is just beautiful. Maybe it's easy to empathize with because I'm something of an animal person myself, but animals really are just simple people, and it warms my heart to see Utsuho and Orin depicted as such. This is especially why At Chirei is so great; I like that Utsuho and Orin spend most of their time in their animal forms. It really draws attention to the unique situation of their household; they're just a couple of critters, and the Komeji sisters are just a pair of mindreading youkai. But through circumstance and their abilities, they really are just like a little family

Yuugi, Parsee, Yamame, and Kisume really deserve more mention than I'm giving them here, but these posts are getting too long as it is. I will try to be concise: Yuugi's awesome, Parsee's interesting, Yamame's creepy, Kisume's adorable

Also, the piece of writing I was referring to when I spoke of Koishi's ability

I'll have to play EoSD, IaMP, and UNL sometime to refresh my memories on their relationships. In any event, I find them interesting as a group, so I suppose we'll leave it at that

An example of what I meant is Meiling and Remilia. There are only 3 canon interactions between them.

The first is only referenced in Meiling's BAJR article, where Remilia orders Meiling to fix the flowers that had changed white in the gardens knowing full well Meiling wouldn't be able to do it (just to tease her some, not really to be mean about it).

The second is Meiling's PMiSS article. It references to how Remilia enjoys watching Meiling dueling people out by the gate.

The last are their victory quotes between one another in the fighting games.

oh neat. I didn't realize there was a second "At Chirei" release. Pity the circle didn't do more; this is some seriously heartwarming shit.

Typo sorry,

It was an example of the "composed" version... I need to go to bed.

I've just read that Koishi mind rape story. Where can I find the beginning of it and continuation (if there is any)? I tried to google few random sentences but with no result. Either those posts are already gone (well, they are dated 09/2011) or that hipster imageboard is not indexed by google.
And I really wonder why author didn't post the copy on fanfiction.net or any other similar site. He spent hours to think up the and write the story and now all his work is lost.

Son I could go full-on Orbital Bombardment on this thread with material along those lines, but this isn't the place to be doing it.

Needless to say, there's plenty of art for it, just gotta look for it.

I just want to take a moment to warn you that the rest of the story is awful. Like, seriously, complete trashcan. It is basically Protagonist Wish Fulfillment: The Story. I looked it up and read it myself some time ago, and was disappointed to find those archived posts are basically the diamonds in the rough

Like, those posts? I just couldn't help but be intrigued because the author genuinely brought life to an otherwise abstract ability: the power to manipulate one's subconscious. The protagonist's mind is literally being unraveled by her. It's just marvelous to read, and frightening to think about how someone could be reduced to something so.. base

But yeah, the rest of that quest thread? Absolute trash in my opinion

Okay!

The Tengus!

First of all, it needs to be said: I love Aya. She's so cool and snappy looking and slick and goddamn! As a guy who already likes wind and speed themed powers, she's just a dream come true. I loved her in UNL. Swift as a gale and smug as a boss! Her crouch animation captures her personality so well that it stands out to me more than anything. Story-wise, there's not as much to say. She's a reporter who reports things. It's great that it gives her an excuse to get involved with things, though

Hatate! It doesn't even seem that long ago that she seemed to be Aya 2.0. I think she's a fun character. Her contrast with Aya, Newspaper vs Blogosphere style makes her strangely unique despite being for all intents and purposes a different spin on the same archetype. Sadly, I haven't played Double Spoiler yet, so commenting further on her personality is hard without resorting to fanon. But whatever, she's very bakkoi

Momiji! I regret to say that I have not read many doujins with her as a central character, so it is hard to see her as much more than Aya's dutiful helper. That said, I like her weapons of choice. 10/10, would venture into a foreboding dungeon to battle a Lich with

Nitori! It's amazing how injecting a fantasy setting with a little TECHNOLOGY can make a fun contrast with magic. I love her when she really gets to go all out with her SCIENCE, but that slightly goes against her archetype; she's just a tinker, not a mad scientist

TWO POSTS FUCK

Also, unfortunately I don't have one of those cool group pose pictures for the youkai mountain folks, so I sadly had to break my stride there

Hina! Goddamnit, I don't care how fanon it is; Miracle Hinacle was amazing. Hina is absolutely heartwarming and cute and a bit of a martyr. I should read more of the official material with her in it, though..

The Moriyas!

Sanae is awesome. It's interesting reading different takes on her backstory that usually involve her just being a normal girl and then GODDESSES and now she's their priestess and she's in Gensokyo oh god what is going on. It's an interesting contrast with Marisa; whereas she's what amounts to a badass normal, Sanae *was* normal but now she's a living goddess or something. Anyway, it's a neat backstory to play around with. As for present-day Sanae, just remember that she is a good girl that likes giant robots and there's nothing wrong with that so shut up

Kanako! Goddamnit, now I am frustrated because I want to name some awesomely wonderful doujin I read about that had a serious take on how Kanako came to know Suwako but I can't remember the name of it so goddamnit. Anyway, I love how she's basically a businesswoman who is turning religion into a corporation. Aesthetically, I love how dominant and strong she seems. Her onbashira really are what defines her, visually, and it's surprising how much it lends to the character

83 CHARACTERS LEFT FOR SUWAKO, FUCK. UM, SHE IS CUTE, AND SHE WAS COOL IN UNL. FIN~
