By "seeing the character", I mean when I see a kig, it's very hard for me to register it as "a person in a costume", but simply as "Oh it's an anime girl." To think of it as a person in a costume, it's similar to when you see am optical illusion drawing and you have to concentrate on it to see the old woman instead of the young one. Even if the body isn't perfect. It seems like you notice the person inside a lot?

As for not looking like the characters, I think that's a bit opinionated. Any good kig looks way closer to the character than any non-masked cosplay could, and that's why I like it. You can get the facial shape, the hair, the eye style, even subtler details like certain lines on the face. Just like a giant figurine.

Its not too difficult, most of the time the measurements for a given size are specified, so whether it is for male or female is arbitrary. Though if it is made in japan the sizes will run stupid small.

But I encourage anyone to just learn how to sew. If you have any adeptness for model making, particularly paper craft, (or just attention to detail) making clothing is pretty easy. A used machine is cheap, and with a bit of practice you will probably end up with something that is more accurate and higher quality.

Find GouKaOu's site, that's your best bet. Ships and deals overseas, sells quality zentai, decent at english. Masks may not suit your style, but having seen one in person I can vouch for the quality. Other options are Kaga/Gaka, Wyu, etc. Dolphin and Nukopan sometimes sell overseas but it's a matter of actually getting in contact with them. A larger mask will offset your height, and in solo shots will look fine. most masks are large enough to offset typical male heights, except maybe GKOs which are pretty snug. The padding method is the same no matter how tall you are. There's actually an informative thread about it if you want to bother looking at the KCS forums.

As for the bulge, that's padding too. You just pad AROUND it. Basically if you're making the hips, butt, and thighs larger, your padding is going to reach around the front as well. Just pad everywhere BUT that area, and it'll seem flat.

Talking about something for a month... congrats on your contribution Wyu. I've planned many events, this one is simple. You set up a route for donations, you advertise it, you're done. Basically, If the donations are under 1000, a mask will not be raffled and the mask cost will NOT be deducted (this is already stated in the rules) If it doesn't reach $2000, a second mask will not be offered.

1000 pounds is about 1625USD give or take. Whatever is left over from $2000 after the exchange rate is applied on that particular day is what is going to the mask costs. The mask cost is simply a close estimate to cover the materials at a deeply discounted rate. Honestly I think this is fair for the work that Cici and Wyu are putting into this. If a mask costs $800, they're essentially donating ~$600 each. If you're unhappy with things being estimated this way, you don't have to donate.

I haven't talked to Kirsty yet but she has requested 1000 pounds since the beginning. Like I said before, this isn't just urn shipment costs, it's leftover funeral/cremation fees. I can see how the masks are supposed to be an incentive for donating. It reminds me of a Kickstarter stretch goal actually, sort of a "if we reach $1000 then one lucky donator will get a mask" thing.

However, the fact that money actually comes *out* of the charity fund to compensate Wyu for these masks is deeply troubling and at worst, outright unethical.

Look at it this way: if the charity drive raises $999, then all of that money goes to Kirsty and her cause. But if it goes to $1000, then Wyu deducts money (for sake of the example, say $200) to fund a mask for someone else. This means that Kirsty only gets $800. Do you see why this is a problem?
