The anime was overall pretty mediocre if not bad.

They made Alicia into a tsundere for no reason and they added a completely unnecessary love triangle with Faldio which went nowhere. On top of all of this, the animation wasn't super great, it certainly didn't do the beautiful aesthetic design of the game justice.

To it's credit however, they did manage one aspect of the series better in the anime rather than in the series, that being Isara's death . In the game, you get one mission and some really weak cutscenes. At least in the anime they tried doing a better job of showing Welkin's grief.

The combat in this series is so great. It's such a great blend of turn-based and action gameplay. Too bad it relies upon grinding like all Japanese RPGs. Fucking Japan.

In VCII (where the screencap is from) you have to do missions over and over again with each character until you randomly receive the clearances needed to unlock another class. It's nonsense and not fun in the least. Making numbers go up is not roleplaying.
