Japanese penpals is bullshit. I tried it many years ago when I still didn't know how to say even one word in Japanese. They basically don't give a shit about you and just use you to try and improve their English while terribly failing at it. Today I can speak better Japanese than they speak English, and English isn't even my native language.

No one is actually gonna teach you Japanese. No one is actually gonna teach you English either. It's just a dumb excuse to exchange meaningless emails because you both can't understand each other unless you speak Japanese (since they suck too much at English).

Well I guess I'll contribute. I had correspondence with a few people who stopped replying after a little while. But that was only right after I put up the profile. The first girl said she wanted to learn English but only spoke Japanese and I just obviously couldn't keep up after awhile. I wasn't studying hard enough and even then writing a full letter at my level just took a lot of time. I tried to use some English but she wasn't having any of it.

I'm still currently talking to a girl who knows English pretty well but was busy with personal stuff and has more time to talk. Since I'm 27 I wonder if they're secretly looking for a husband or something.

The first girl was pretty nice but I think she just made the mistake of me being literate when in fact I was just putting 4 hours into each message. This second girl is more interested in English so it gives me kind of a in.

I also got a lot of replies right after I posted, so I don't know if there is some freshness aspect in the searches. It's sort of difficult for me since I really have little going on in my life. I sort of moved back home to care for my disabled brother/sit on my ass and don't really much but.
