Pretty nicely.
I like the text, the lines are pretty short but everything is quite snappy and flow well.
The characters are all likable and interesting and the plot has shown some good signs so far.
I didn't have the time to finish a route yet, the game seems pretty massive too, but I'm where the shit started to hit the fan in Mashiro's route and everything is really interesting.
Not OP so I don't know if he has a finished a route but it's delivering for me so far.

In an average moege, how long is the common route? I'm sick of spending 20+ hours being forced into pointless interactions with other characters, while the girl I like barely shows up at all.

Depends a lot on the game and your reading speed (personally, eroges tend to take me way longer than what most people on EGS report, I don't mind it because I like to listen most of the voices and stuff), the script szies on TLwiki are probably the best way to estimate a game's length assuming your game happens to be in their list.

>>10261055 >I like the text, the lines are pretty short but everything is quite snappy and flow well. Are you me? >>10261030 >>10261064 Anyway, I finished Mashiro's route and am doing Renka's as we speak. It's been decent so far with some potential that it's yet to take advantage of. Mashiro's route was okay, but a bit too run of the mill for my liking. There were a couple of moments where things could've really picked up but didn't, and I get the feeling this is going to be the case with the other two routes that are available from the start as well. I'm not liking Ayato as a protagonist either. He's great in the common route and comedy segments, but once you get into a route his blandness and, more worryingly, the inconsistency with which he's written are huge drawbacks. It's like the writer switches his behaviour and motives every time he wants to quicken or lower the pace of the story. It's really jarring to read. That said though, I don't want to sound too negative because I am enjoying the game a lot so far. The common route was great. Here's hoping the rest of it delivers.

>> No.10261217

>>10261172
It's the same for me. Feels like I haven't gotten any faster compared to when I started out. Reading never felt slow, but I always end up taking much longer than I expect. I also tend to get lost on scenes with automatic text.
There's probably nothing I can do besides keep on reading, I guess.

Well the quality of the text is always important for me so I'm the type who notice these kind of things, it was also more apparent since I'm reading Suigetsu 2 concurrently that is made of huge lines that never end.

And yeah Ayato has been kind of annoying since the route started but I guess he had to be like this seeing the setting, hopefully the plot and he will go somewhere, would be annoying if he would just end up being a bland bystander.

So I played Kamidori about a year back or so, breeded with some mudgirls and whatnot, and dropped the game since better things to do. However, I tried to c+p the files from one comp to another since first comp exploded. I know it was stupid, but most importantly, I have the save files. The game tells me whenever I try to install the English patch that it's already installed, and I can't even check because when the game starts up, it's just one black screen (though I can click the menu since I hear hear it and shit). Long story short, how the fuck do you uninstall Kamidori, since al the like four uninstall applications don't do shit, and neither does the one in the game disc?

Can anyone advise? I really don't want to play Witch's House or anything else. Just marathoned some Sharin no Kuni and G Senjou... need some nice mudsecks to cheer me up.

My recommendation is to put everything you have in one easily accessible file (if it isn't already), and just delete all of it. That excludes your save files if you want to keep those, but make sure beforehand that the save files will run if you need to get new patches or whatever when you re-download/install. This is what I had to do when I got a patch for Touhou DoD that messed up the Festival Expansion. Just put everything together and got rid of it, then started from scratch.

Chelsea: Has stupidly high defense, yes, but that's countered by dark/knockback attacks and she's super-susceptible to Temari's Lovely Rabbit Dancing. Her EX attacks are decent though, since one literally makes her a meat shield.

Feena: Somewhat the reverse of Chelsea. Weak defense, stronger offense, and the ability to freeze EX gauge is damn useful. Wouldn't call her broken though, since she needs another teammate that can use EX Purify-type moves to help her keep the EX gauge down (like Ria, Azel, or Hime).

Kayoko: Hands down the fastest speed in the game, and both of her EX attacks are powerful. I think even the makers admitted that she was too good.

Overall, the most broken SBX characters are Lullshare, Masaki, and Kayoko, IMO. Maou Synn, Illear, and Berserk Bylous are up there as well.

I should work on a tier list...

I've mostly been catching up to my backlog but out of this year's releases Amantes Amentes is shaping up to being my favorite title, though I don't know if it should count.

Honorable mention goes to Phenomeno for giving my horror dosage and I think Root Double was also a worthwhile read even though it turns quite boring and predictable during the last (and the longest) route. Mixed feelings about Grisaia no Meikyuu but I suppose it's a fan disc first, sequel second.

Haven't really delved into nukige that much but I had plenty of fun with Kanotsuku2, especially with the various SM and NTR scenes.

Well I'm really bored so I'll do a summary month by month of what I read/liked.
Sorry for the blog posts.

January:
Bunny Black 2: Not a bad sequel but I didn't like the change to the gameplay, the characters/writing in general were a bit more fun though.

Majikoi S: The heroines after are mostly made of ero, most of the new side characters are paper-thin and the old heroines are far more boring than in the first game.
The soundtrack is really awesome though and I liked Koyuki's route, mostly because Seiso was cool.

February:
Hatsuyuki Sakura: The good things about it were the heroines, I liked Sakura and Aya and the last route.
The game suffers from really under-narrated so I didn't really feel anything from the so-called crying scenes but it's not too bad overall.

Shinigami no Testament: Chuuni game, far better than its predecessor Bloody Rondo but it's still pretty average.
What it does well is have routes that are completely different and really show the different sides of the setting, but like most titles of its genre it suffer from endless school scenes. The fights aren't too bad so that's a plus.

Grisaia no Meikyuu: Well I'm a Grisaia fag so I'll be a bit biased but I loved it. Caprice is my favorite part of Grisaia so far and I had a lot of fun with the After of Michiru, Amane and Makina, professor Dave was god tier too.
It's just a fandisk though, and Caprice is a just a prologue to the main story so...

Rance Quest Magnum: Best Rance since 6 for me but I'm not the biggest fan of Sengoku. Magnum actually adds a story to Quest, the gameplay is more smooth and it's overall very fun to play through.

Kaminoyu: I consider this one a bit underrated. The art is very perplexing at first glance with the bodies that look there were made by Clamp but I got used to it quickly.
It's a bit overnarrated too with a protagonist who has a lot of inner thoughts but the writing is good and flow well.
The final product is very nice, one of the best charage of the year.

Ore wa Shoujo mangaka: PSP only. Similar to Kaminoyu it's a bit underrated. A very funny title that flow nicely and has some great heroines, Hisui was really cute

March:
Material Brave: It's shit, don't play it. Or at least wait for the new version

Root Double: In a way it's the anti-Ever17. Personally I found the first/middle part very fun even if I had a few problems with it. The last part though (that took like half of the game) was mostly focused on the past of the characters and dragged a bit.
Unlike the Infinity games Root Double didn't try to build itself around a twist and by the end it really feels like you know all the characters inside out but the game is probably not as memorable as it could have been, still pretty good all around.

Eiyuu*Senki: The gameplay kind of seem fun during the Asia part but gets pretty draggy and simple aftward, the writing is pretty horrible. Since I actually finished it there is probably something about it that make it good but I wouldn't be able to tell you what it is.

&: New Hino though the direction was by some other guy. The writing is high tier all around so it's a very fun read, it also has a simple theme of youth that is quite engaging.
But to ennumerate the problems I had with it: the plot/setting aren't developed enough, the romances with the heroines feel more than lackluster, the side characters and even some heroines feel very underdeveloped/used in general, most of the indivdual routes were poor. I liked the route of Yae (the character herself is pretty bad and creepy) and Urara though.
Urara as a character and route is certainly high tier and & is worth readin just for her.

Dracu-riot: Not much to say about it other than Noble Work was better and Nicola and her magical breasts were cute.

April:
Mahoyo: A bit hard to talk about it since it's Type-Moon. What I'll say is that it has a really nice mood, created not only by the amazing production values and soundtrack but also by the novel-like writing. The game isn't too long but the story feel complete, it also has a lot of foreshadowings and references to the Nasuverse which is nice for the fans.
To be a bit less nice, I'll say I found Aoko barely tolerable during most of the game, the writing itself felt refined but not very interesting to read and that despite the short span of the story the pacing was a bit off at time. Everything about the story is also very simple and straigthforward but that's to be expected. A good introduction to the setting.
Soukoku no Arterial: The gameplay is interesting but it's limited to the first playthrough only, the story/writing are better than Kamidori but still bad and Mirai was cute. Well overall I liked Kamidori better.
Monobeno: Very pretty and atmospheric. The setting is interesting but not that well used, the pacing isn't bad but the writing doesn't make the game too engaging and it suffered from unreasonable pov change during the last route that just made everything too repetitive.
Demonion: Quite a good gameplay eroge. It suffers from being either too hard or too easy but the gameplay is very engaging. This one is underrated too
Harukuru: One of the best eroge of the year. Prologue is 20 sex scenes thrown to your face so most people would believe it is a nukige but passed this everything get really interesting.
The writing is fun to read and flow well, the characters are all nice, the game even manages to hit all the good spots and be emotional in a good way.
VenusBlood Frontier: It felt like a remake of Empire but I can't say I liked the plot/characters as much. The gameplay is much better though with a nice difficulty curve and some freedom. It also has a fucking awesome soundtrack that is never mentioned for some reason.

Sorry, I forgot the spaces there

May;
JQV: Well it's simply the best eroge of the year for me, at least if you don't count Amantes. A hommage (or you could say rip-off) to Cross Channel and Saihate no Ima, that mix a great settings, characters and writing. Not much to say other than you should read it if you liked one of the titles above. Well to be a bit more objective, I thought the ending could have been a bit stronger, or rather it kind of paled compared to the previous climax or the resolution of Cross Channel.

Kono Oozora ni: A nice coming of age story with a very calming mood. The writing isn't too bad either, at least during the common part and the routes of Kotori/Amane. It's the kind of title that is nice to do little by little.

Kyonyuu Fantasy 2: This one I haven't finished yet but it's by a writer I appreciate. Rather than a sequel it feels more like a retake on the first game. A nice fantasy title with some political intrigues and a lot of breasts.

Joker: Only worth reading for 10 minutes to marvel/laugh at the writing.

June:

Futsuno Fantasy: The best part of the game is the now legendary trial. The game kind of lost its charm after Squeenix raped it but it still wasn't too bad. I'd recommend trying to find the first trial for a good laugh.

Namima no Kuni no Faust: Another great eroge that is very underrated for some reason. It's basically Sharin no Kuni x Spice & Wolf so get in here and read it already.
To talk about it a bit more, I'd say that despite the setting/story that seem hard to shallow, the game manages to make everything easily understandable yet complex enough to be interesting, it has also a very nice pacing. A very engaging eroge, definitely one of the best of the year

July
Owaru Sekai to Birthday: Still have to finish it, last I did was Mika's route so others people could talk about it better than I can

Furuiro Meikyuu Rondo: A title that was probably too ambitious for its writers. The gameplay takes a bit to get used to and the game is buggy as hell with one bug in particular that fuck up your savedata, forcing you to do everything back from the beginning.
But the plot isn't bad at all, the characters are nice, Saki in particular is great. The ending part though is very confusing, mostly because the writer failed at really bringing its point across.
A good effort for that team, also you'll learn lots of tea jargon reading it.

Aerial: An eroge that could have been awesome but that failed hard due to the writer. Well a lot has been said about it before so I won't over it again.

August

Sakura, Sakimashita: Only did one route. The setting is nice but the whole thing is pretty boring and lack charm.

Tokyo Babel: Nice chuuni-ge, the setting/overall design of the game make it seem almost parody like, which isn't helped since the game has a lot of humor but it manages to be pretty badass when it must.
It's not Ayakashibito level of awesome but it's a good title by this writer, better than Bullet Butler at least

Naka no Hito nado Inai: Nice common part with some good moe and humor, the individual routes are a bit more jarring but Ayano's route wasn't bad.

And Dies Irae but well

September

Zero Infinity: Another chuuni-ge. This one was obviously influenced by Dies Irae, well it's basically a science DI.
It's nicely paced and the routes go crescendo in intensity, there is a lot of fights and match-ups and the powerlevel goes very high.
It's overnarrated though which slow down the pace, especially the protagonist has a lot of inner thoughts and you've to hear about his philosophy a lot.
I also thought that the final conflict was too generic bad guys vs good guys with the protagonists who always have the moral upground. It's something that Dies Irae managed not to do but ZI felt into it, due to this it felt a bit "shonen".
Still nice for people who like chuuni and DI.

Pure Girl: I'm not big into nukige and the likes but this one was pretty funny.

Tsukumo no Kanade: Art is great but it feels like it was written by a 10 years old

SINCLIENT: Bourne in Japan. Nice if you turn your brain off and take it like a hollywood flick. Watch everyone be an Agent double/triple

Re:birth colony: Nice setting and I liked the mood, the writing isn't bad either. But the pacing gets very slow passed half of the common part so it's not for people who easily lose their attention.

October

TsuriOtsu: My favorite thing about it is the prologue that is incredibly well written in a style that is completely different compared to the rest of the game. But the main game is pretty good too, especially due to the main heroine Luna who is a very memorable character to say the least.
A lot of time is spent on talking about fashion, dress-making in the like but surprisingly it never bored me.
The prologue + Luna's route make for one of the best charage of the year, the route of Ursule wasn't bad too.

Chuning Lover: The common part was kind of funny, like most eroge of its genre the routes fail though

Ryuusei no Arcadia: Incredibly boring.

November

Nothing. I tried Alicetale and WItch Garden, both were boring as fuck.

December

Haven't finished a title yet but I'll say that Gun Knight Girl has the potential to be in the top 5 of the year if the routes of Tamaki and Sayoko deliver.
Suigetsu 2 isn't bad either but its text is a bit dense for no reason and Koyoi, who is one of the 2 major heroine, is toddler level.
Also there is Perseus for people who want a nice looking nukige

I'm probably missing a lot of titles since I'm not big on the nukige/moege but I should have cited most of the interesting scenario-ge of the year.
Except Dangan Ronpa 2, I should get to it and do it soon.

ALICETALE: The writing was boring as hell, dropped after one hour

The last part of the route I kept for last turns out to be completely dumb and shitty, dammit.
I hate it when games leave a bad aftertaste like that, especially after they've been rather good up to that point.
Now there's still some sort of final route which I'm only about 50% through, but so far it seems to be even worse.
They could've done so well if they'd just left this as a good charage with humour (which 3 of the 4 routes were) instead of trying to finish their thin story.

For me it'd probably be Futsuno Fantasy. It's a great parody that had be laughing from beginning to end. There wasn't a single character that I hated and I absolutely loved the soundtrack. In addition, Kadowaki Mai and Gotou Mai voicing Hisui and Chris respectively was enough for me to jump onto it. The character designs were pretty hot too even if the H scenes were average. Each individual translation is an original piece of work. You aren't "replicating" anything. The problem is that once one translation comes out, no one would bother reading another one even if it's better. Thus, there'd be no one to suck the 2nd translator's e-peen so there's no motivation.

Without an audience to read a patch, there's not exactly a reason to make one. I mean, you could be reading other games instead of writing a long translation no one will appreciate or enjoy.

Everyone is shocked and stunned that Jay/Jade is the Maou. Chris is the only one that's able to function and act. Jade single-handedly handles the party. While doing so Jade shouts at Hisui and wakes her up from her moment of sadness and asks her if she wants to save the world. She says yes and Jade finally feels relieved that she's back to hero he knows her to be. Everyone counter attacks and Jade is slowly pushed back until hes finally beaten by Hisui. As Jade is dying, he and Hisui have a heartful talk and he states that even though he hates the world, he had fun traveling with them.

Cue Futsuno Fantasy 2
Jade is alive and well. It's explained that the story that the Maou was defeated by the hero's party is true so he's only socially dead. Jade also lost all his Maou powers but is still considered the Maou by his closest followers. Jade then chooses to travel with whichever heroine he chooses until the Goddess declares that she will destroy the world and then everyone gathers again and goes on to try and save the world. Chris knocks Jade out unbeknownst to Hisui and Caren as they leave the castle town and the Maou castle is overrun. After a while it's revealed that the Goddess is controlling Hisui and Caren and uses them to try and kill Jade but he manages to overcome them and they regain their senses in the end.

It's later revealed that Jade is not from their world and was summoned to the world by the previous Maou and Jade's "father." It's also the reason he can tsukkomi so much. Libra, Green, and Aquareef are also not from their world. More things about Jade, Libra, and the Goddess' intentions are revealed as Jade goes around to try and regain his powers and more.

>Is "e-peen" supposed to be insulting?

If you view it as insulting, I'm not going to argue with you. I'm just saying that's the way it works, kind of like saying that investment bankers do whatever the hell they do for the money. It's not a "pure" motive but whatever gets you up in the morning, right?

My point is that a VN translation is a race to the finish line and whoever finishes first gets their cock sucked and all other contestants get nothing, hence they "wasted" their efforts. If you know someone is already translating something, then it becomes a gamble as to whether you can finish before the other guy. Therefore, you'd want to translate something no one else has touched yet.

I don't think that's all there is to it, of course. Another main reason would be that there just aren't enough people out there with the skills and free time and more importantly, interest, to take on something like Baldr Sky.

People's motivations differ and are generally more complicated than this. It may be the most understandable reason to you, but that doesn't mean it's the only one that exists. If you actually tried to translate something, you'd realize that the attention:work ratio is actually not so great.

It's a little uncharitable to jump to hostile, generalized conclusions about people.

Just finished ALICETALE.
The character designs are really nice to look at, but overall the game is average to below-average, and the writing is terrible.

Also, the best girl doesn't even have a proper route, which is one of the most annoying about certain eroge.

I just recently finished Aqua After. That was a really nice fan disk. Rather both Himawari and Aqua After felt very very complete, since it lived out and narrated all of its motifs, and were just plain heartwarming despite every ending involving some sort of misfortune. I'd rate it as one of my favorite sci-fi eroge of all time easily, the additional material in the fan book for the PSP release was interesting too.

I didn't see the Cosmos card coming either. If there's one thing I regret, is that she didn't have a route, even though the Aqua After ending was a very curtain pull for her. With the whole =Aqua thing. Thinking back to how one of the first parts of the original was about the two rabbits on the moon, the level of thematic consistency was really notable.

I remember reading about how there could have been an Aries or Asuka after. Given that they talked about so many alternate futures in episode one of AA, I'd have loved to see some of those come to life. I wonder what the author will produce next.

Hoping it won't be as much as dark as Himawari is. Too many messed up characters, Souichiro, Akari, and Daigo. Akira seem very normal compared to them. Well he is, he just got that strange grin and misunderstanding. Oh don't forget that stupid agent who got a taste of Daigo's wife (forgot her name) and infected himself with Luna Virus, got on the rigged shuttle and died with everyone. Even Aoi was sneering at him.

I would liked it better if Asuka route is the canon one even without touching Luna Virus at all, since Youichi turning into Akira and humanity might finally escaped earth.

Though I don't really understand the necessity of escaping earth.

Aqua After seems like just another Goo's means to mess with Aqua yet again. Poor girl.

Though I wonder what will happen next that Asahi lives and Cosmos got no qualms on destroying humanity.

Finished the first 3 routes in Gun Knight Girl.
I think it's pretty clearly a game that can only be judged after seeing the last route considering all the foreshadowings and unresolved stuffs even after all these routes but I'll say a few things.
First the routes aren't too bad but it does feel like they ended just when they could have become interesting.
The protagonist himself is also pretty annoying, he doesn't grow up, it doesn't feel like he has any relevance and he overall talk a lot but doesn't act at all, he isn't a great thinker either.
He is pretty good during the comedy moments though so that kind of save him but the game would have really benefited of some pov changes.

I like all the heroines so far, Shino is my favorite, Nanamin was surprising to say the least she is really fucked up, Mashiro is cute all around

And finished Hinata's route in Suigetsu 2 too.
Well I don't know if I'll do the other routes, maybe do Saki and call it a day.
I really thought it could be good but I guess there is a reason nobody talk about it in Japan.
The main problem of Suigetsu 2 is that it focuses on the wrong things, basically the setting is nice and the whole plot really could have been interesting.
But Hinata's route had the protagonist running in circle for half of the route, the romance is half-assed as hell and the ero sudden as fuck.

The battles are pretty half-assed too, there was only like 2 in the routes so it's clearly not a focus, Hinata herself started as an annoying tsundere at the beginning and she didn't really evolve from there.
Maybe if the game focused less on the irrelevant side characters and more on actually developing her and the plot.
Saki was cool though so I'll do her route, considering her place in the plot it should be interesting and the good thing is that I won't have to do Koyoi's route and feel like a huge pedo.

Just finished Sekka's route in KimiSora. Somehow, I marathoned through all of it in a single session, and I'm glad I did. I liked it quite a lot.

The first ending was bittersweet. Sekka passed on happily and found peace, although it means she and the protagonist have to separate. The reason for the bullying will probably destroy some people's willing suspension of disbelief, but it did accomplish it's mission of making me bear extreme hatred for these people. Most people will probably find the first ending to be the Good Ending, since in the second ending, Sekka's possessiveness and yandere traits go all the way, to the dismay of people who see her as a selfish bitch.

I see this ending as a second Good Ending rather a bad one and I'm glad you're given the option. Although it's a fake world and the protagonist was basically being manipulated by Sekka, they became happy (though the bullying suddenly just stopping out of nowhere was strange) and supposedly lived happily ever after, although when reading between the lines it seemed like there was a bit of an implication that the protagonist felt something was still strange. Either way, Sekka's deredere side gave me diabetes and their interactions were cute. Ignorance is truly bliss.

In the end, it's a matter of perspective between facing reality or escaping it. Damn, what I'd give for my own fake world ending.

Oh, and the art is quite beautiful.

coda - you should do the normal ending, Kazusa's normal/true route, then finally Setsuna's true route.

I think the game really should have locked Setsuna's route for last since the sub-heroines reveal things about Setsuna and Haruki's character and relationship that aren't shown in just Setsuna's route. So in other words, yes, definitely do the sub-heroines even if you feel guilty about it because IMO it's necessary to fully understand the main characters.

Why. Why can't other VN writers write a non-high schooler protagonist?

I find myself being able to relate to them less and less as I get older.
Hopefully, the success of WA2 will spurry other companies to write something in that vein.

I don't know. Is a mopey college student dragging around a self-centered obsession with old relationship drama really more "relatable" for you? I wanted to beat Haruki around the head three dozen times before I even got to coda.

Given the sheer amount of games/anime/manga that take place in high school and the sheer lack of games/anime/manga that don't, I'd assume that Japanese life after high school is so atrociously horrible that they never want to be reminded of their lot in life while perusing entertainment.

Which is kind of funny given Haruki's situation in WA2 - works 12 hours a day every single day and sleeps about 4 hours a night. How the hell is he still alive? Much less have an active sex life, realistically he'd fall dead asleep mid thrust.

People are shallow enough that they judge protagonists by their age? And I thought people who dismiss games because of their setting were bad.

>> No.10273246

>>10273217
Not really, but age brings a more unique experience to the player. There are things that adults can experience but high-schoolers cannot.

For example, I really like the work environment of a salaryman and all the strings behind it as it is described by the MC in Damekoi. Such things are possible because the protagonist is 29 and is a person is trying to earn his paycheck to survive in society and to support his family. That's not something you would typically find in a protagonist of a high school age.

>> No.10274133

I think part of that is that there's simply too much stuff right now. A lot of companies have been trying to get into the eroge market, and even if a lot of them go bankrupt there's always others who try to join. I mean even when a very solid game gets released there's usually other slightly lower tier but still high profile releases in the same month, let alone year, so the consumers are going to be spread a lot rather than concentrated on those few top tier releases.
I guess the economy doesn't help too

Which is exactly the problem. The video game industry has become mindless, heartless, soulless, with no meaning and no value.
