Half of them got angry because it wasn't their pet theory, the other half because multiple personalities is pretty cheap and everyone thought of Umineko as a masterpiece of the mystery genre. Then R07 came out saying that when he challenged everyone to solve umineko he actually meant that it wasn't a mystery story at all and insulted the readers multiple times in his game.

I said it in the past and I'll say it again: it's impossible to have a decent adaptation of the novel because 99% of it is, simply speaking, Battler and -Random Witch- sit down in the tea room looking at the chessboard and having red-blue battles. About the Higurashi adaptation I sort have a soft spot because I am one of those that watched it back in the days, far before I even knew what visual novels actually were. Was it terrible and failed as an adaptation? Yes. Do I like the direction the "higurashi" franchise took after that? No.
But you know what? In the end, if you ended up watching it as something indipendent, as an anime it worked, it sort of made sense. Or at the very least it was intresting.

Ryukishi didn't insult anyone. Maybe he didn't even agree with the whole "let's hide the truth", he just released the goats inside the story. If you were a magical being or some furniture whose existence depends on a fragile truth (Kanon's situation is the worst, just think about it), you'd also insult every goat who tried to uncover the truth.

That's why I hate it. Umineko was shit and I dropped it after the second game. Then I discovered the novels.

Higurashi was interesting, made sense on the surface and was even moving. Hell, it became my favorite franchise ever and still is. But by watching it, the novels were spoiled for me. It's like... uh... going to heaven and then realizing that there's a second heaven, incredibly better, so much that makes you cry, and you can't go there for all eternity because you chose the first heaven already.

There is something about Higanbana... The series, not the character. I don't know what it is, but it makes this sound novel really attractive. Maybe it's the elementary schoolers... Or the atmosphere, which is really damn good this time around.

This is supposed to be a "lesser work", and some chapters are better than others, but still... I don't really know what it is, but this novel has become one of my favorites. Maybe I have a weird taste, since very few people seem to like Higanbana that much.

I've noticed that Ryukishi likes to write really weird first chapters. I mean, Onikakushi was almost exclusively horror, then the series shifted to an unavoidable fate which can be defeated with TRUST and friendship.

Legend of the golden witch was a pure mystery, then Umineko became a story about how the last member of the Ushiromiya family uses LOVE to change the way she sees an event that happened in the past, something that cannot be changed.

Higanbana has a central theme too, and the first chapter is kind of weird compared to the others. It's not as radically different as Onikakushi and Legend, though.

There are seven chapters in the first part. I don't want to spoil myself, so I don't even know how many chapter are there in the second part. I'll wait until it's fully translated.

I've just finished the anime, but I don't hav time to read the VN (yet), so I have a question: what the actual fuck?

It has been clearly stated by R07 in an interview that Umineko is two stories written together. But there are retards who pick only one of those stories, completely disregard the other one, and decide that it's nothing more than a story of a servant who hated their job and had an identity disorder or something. Even though the story they disregarded actually also contains useful metaphors for understanding what happened in the so-called "real" one. But it was -never- said that the world of this disregarded story doesn't exist.

Umineko isn't just a mystery. It's half mystery (the "real" story) and half fantasy (the other one).
