Hikikomori and NEETs piss me off. I have to work all day outside irregardless of the weather to make my little $8.75 an hour so I can have food and pay the bills maybe buy me a fig here and there. I wish. As it is right now, I'm working two jobs while completing my graduate studies. Surfing the internet is basically my only leisure activity. And worse of all, I have to PRETEND to be NEET just to fit in.

To me, it's a pretty reasonable trade. The NEETs sit at home, sure, but they're also the ones gathering material from all over the internets, they're the ones translating manga and shit like that, and in general ensuring everything is in one place so that when I get home from work, I don't have to spend an unnecessary amount of time looking for the shit. And in exchange I pay taxes, which funds welfare, which keeps them in instant noodles and internet connectivity.

I am one OP but I think most of the people you're thinking of would falli nto the neet category. Hikis are pretty extreme and while they do exist in the west they tend to be rare.

All hikikomori are NEET but not all NEET are hikikomori. It's pretty simple.
