What media player should I use?
I don't listen to a lot of music, but I lately tried winamp because I saw it mention a lot in some PC Gamer magazine from '97 but it's got too much junk and buttons that I dunno how to work, and I can hardly find anything.

Something that will recognize a folder as an album and lay it out accordingly would be nice.

I personally use foobar2000 since it's simple and browses through folders very well. If you start it the first time, I'd recommend selected Album List + Properties (tabbed) from the quick setup (accessible from View > Layout if it doesn't come up automatically) and then change the view menu to by folder structure.

that one is different from my issue that is a encoding issue. Not sure if it is because of system or what you used to unpack that song. The jibberish is why it wont sort right. My issue was that they had some screwed up code to sort by artist if no artist sort by album then to sort each in a sub cat of album so if it was not all dojin music it would sort by band then each album within, sadly this and many of my other jpop have multiple artists so it makes a mess.

I am not a programmer nor bothered to remember this tagging code so it is probably incomplete broke or whatever, it does work so all I care about.
I coudlnt get mine to show that year thing just the full date. SO your issue might be different. I did have a sorting method that gave me a forced white BG with blue glow text, but I couldnt find any settings to mess with to alter it's behavior. EL playlist I think NG Is what I am using. I would also like to excise the column text and have it be a context menu to sort by vs more ugly white crud.

Next thing I would like to do is re-skin the UI to remove the win7 white crap and remove those ugly ass dividers. I tried a few skins but no way to customize without experimenting with the code. guess GOOGLE would help me more than randomly fucking around.

Ok el playlist has a buttload of options I was looking again in the wrong place. Look in the grouping tag it should help join up those non jibberish files. To fix those just replace the junk with the proper jis code. I find any that puke up are in ECU dunno why they would all be shift-jis then one song randomly is in ECU but w/e

A gigabyte of music is good enough variety, and it's not like it's a hassle when I want to switch different songs. I am happy without spending a couple of hundred dollars on something better, what more could I ask for?

Katawa Shoujo was because it was free. I never got into it because Emi is horrible. Only track I do like from it is the burn-hoe's one.

Bleach, Naruto, and Inuyasha have decent tracks. Note that Bleach and Naruto only have a few songs. Admittedly most Inuyasha songs are there for nostalgia and have few plays.

Yes, shuffle like every other MP3 player has.
I've had my shuffle for about 8-10 years and it hasn't failed me. Upgrades are unnecessary.
