Being female says nothing for skin color, facial features, age, breast size, etc. There's more ways to be unlike a character than just sex. I have found more female hobby kigs look strange if their frame is not large (not fat) The masks always look out of scale. Some of the Japanese ones appear to have smaller masks made though.

It does irk every time I see speaking kigs or unmasking it is a woman. (ignoring porn videos) They have this inbuilt need to camwhore. I dislike this, a kig is suppose to be anon. The idea is you are not suppose to even think about who or what is underneath.

I don't think women unmask any more than the men do (during events like comiket, unmasking has to happen for the safety of the performer, and they will in public), i think people are just more likely to grab a candid shot of a girl. Well, there are more factors than that too. You're not supposed to "ruin the magic" in public, but no one says it's "supposed" to be anon. That's just what the individual player makes of it. There's no cross dressing stigma for the women, so of course they're going to be more comfortable sharing their hobby with others. Don't simplify the situation so readily, the social factors are too vast to just say something like "It's because women are like this". Try to think that maybe you feel annoyed because of your own preconceptions.

You're right, the men do have to do extra work to look good, but that doesn't make them better. No one's the more deserving party just because they have to do a little extra to get the same job done. Everyone has things they need to compensate for in life.

Not like there isn't any girls who don't feel pretty enough to cosplay. But, to want to kig you need to fit a lot of niche specifics anyway. Someone who's not creeped out by all this is pretty rare in itself, so the right combination of a girl who has any number of reasons to do this over regular cosplay, even if she's not pretty, is uncommon.

Yes, effort and quality should be appreciated.

However I don't think it's right of you to accuse women of only participating in a hobby to attention-whore. Good cosplay involves a multitude of crafts and skill sets that that some serious motivation and passion to master. Learning how to apply makeup properly for the camera, sewing, resin casting for a multitude of uses (jewels, props), armor and prop making, even stuff like embroidery that people will spend money on the special machines for. Don't trivialize people's reasons to get into a hobby, that's gross. Yes, attention whores exist, but anyone familiar with the kig fandom knows that the males can be massive attention-seekers too. Attention is nice, but even the whores don't do what they do for THAT reason alone. There's cheaper ways to get attention if that's all you want.

I know the faces of more male kigs than female. Don't judge just because some people are not afraid to show their faces, or are able to. You wouldn't want someone to do the same.

I wish more people in the west had better taste. The worst kigs I've seen weren't by women, but regardless there's a big lack of taste in the western end of things. A lot of people are perfectly satisfied with sub-par masks because they're simply unable to tell the difference between good and bad. Some people don't even browse japanese websites.

You have to learn fashion, color coordination, photography, posing, suit acting, it's a real investment in money AND in creative learning. The style sense of the average low-level anime fan here is not really up to par, plus a lot of other factors.
