People often find it hard to explain moe, OP. If something is moe, it holds the attributes which yeild the kind of attraction you get to something that's cute. Moe is the female form of gar. It is the most ideal form of femininity, usually punctuated by being exceedingly cute.

See Miyazaki Nodoka, Asihana Mikuru, Yuki Nagato, Rukia, that vocaloid chick, etc. All of these are prime examples of moe, HOWEVER, moe comes in many forms and is not exclusively limited to young girls nor one specific archetypal ideology. (Though it usually is.) It may also include stronger girls, such as Setsuna Sakurazaki, Asuka, or even teh Rei.

The 3 origins of Moe which I've heard that make the most sense to me are that it was a term originally used to describe Studio Ghibli girls, that it originated from ToMOE Hotaru of Sailor Moon fame >>1020413 and that it originally came from moeru, to burn. The kanji used for moe means sprouting but that obviously isn't the meaning to the word.

Originally when I came across the word moe it was used to describe the reason adult men watched shows like Bottle Fairies and Kokoro Library.

Another meaning it took on for quite awhile was the desire to protect someone which is what Ken Akamatsu thinks moe means, in this case a show like Sister Princess is the ultimate moe. 12 younger sisters to watch over and protect without the capacity to romance them.

Now it's lost it's meaning and it's used to describe anything from a cute fetish to pedophilia to sexual desire for anime girls in general although it does have somewhat of a universal catchall to all things cute.
