So /jp/, I lived in Japan for about a year and there's something I've always wanted to know: Why do Japanese people walk so fucking slowly? Is it because they're generally shorter and therefore take shorter strides? Is it because they don't have anywhere good to go? Or is it because they just don't give a shit that I'm behind them? Granted, Japanese people seem to run to catch trains, etc. a lot more than Westerners, but maybe they wouldn't need to run if they didn't walk so damn slowly. What does /jp/ think?

MY GOD THIS

Of course, there was a bicycle chained to every fucking sign and guard-rail, plus advertising signs, plus scooters; so there's like <14" of sidewalk left, and the motherfucking bicyclists DON'T RIDE IN THE STREET, so you're forced to practically climb the walls to get out of their way.

Fucking Tokyo

brrng brrng NO, FUCK YOU, GROW A PAIR AND GET OFF THE SIDEWALK.

>> No.1018332

Believe it or not, there are places worse than even Tokyo. Imagine being run down by SWARMS of up to ten bicyclists riding in one giant pack, essentially running you off the sidewalk. Ugh.

>> No.1018335

Never have any problem with the bicyclists, but I'm Dutch, so I'm the Japanese way of using a bicycle seems quite tame.

>>1018291
I like how people leave the right side of the escalator for people actually walking on them. I hate walking in crowded areas because of the slowness. I usually use the back streets if I'm heading somewhere with lots of people walking on the main road.

I thought that Japanese people generally ignore it if they bump into someone while walking, or if someone bumps into them. So surely it doesn't matter how slow they walk? Or is that not true at all?

>> No.1018345

>>1018335
It's less a question of tameness than one of consideration, in my opinion; sidewalks are meant for pedestrians, not for vehicles. Bicycles are vehicles. They should therefore should be required to run on either the road along with all the OTHER vehicles, or be confined to specialized bicycle lanes.

What is frustrating about the Tokyo example is that there seems to be some sense that bicycles somehow should receive priority over pedestrians, and then feel little remorse in ringing their bells at you, when, really, they're not moving faster than anyone else, what, with the crowds.

In Tsukuba, we have a special bicycle lane. But guess what -- no one uses it.

>> No.1018353

In my experience, that's true. One time when we were drunk in Japan, my friend started bumping into people on purpose. Most of them actually apologized to him.

I would guess it is illegal to ride your bicycle in car lanes where there is a clear sidewalk in Japan.

Quick test - try riding your bike in traffic in Tokyo, and see if any cop stops you.

Americans were judged the most courteous and the British the rudest, alongside the Russians and Canadians.

Worst tourists
17th = Argentines, New Zealanders, Czechs, Finns
21st Indians

The Brits also seemed to make least effort in speaking the local language, a quality excelled by the Germans, French and Americans.

Yeah, I realised that.

But when it says things like
>The behaviour of British tourists was recently in the spotlight when 13 were arrested on the Greek island of Faliraki, in a police crackdown on lewd behaviour.

It's because a lot of Brits go to places like Faliraki to get pissed and shitty behaviour is just a part of getting drunk. That, and a lot of brits aren't willing to try new food, which is another thing the BBC talked about.

Anyway, whatever. I'm not like that, I shouldn't care.

I've lived there half my lifetime, you people are the most ignorant fuckers I had to deal with. You also very well live up to the "stereotype" that you have no manners, are blatantly obnoxious and atrociously fat. You're racists, prejudice, xenophobes without even realizing it, as long as the "taboo" words don't come into play, it's all fair game to you. But when you're the one being treated "unfairly" in another country, it's an outrage. Now you know how it is for non-whites to live in a shitstain country like yours. "My way or the high way, otherwise get the fuck out." That's your American motto!

All of you are just so fucking oblivious of how much people are annoyed by your presence. Fuck off and stay in your own country. Nobody likes you anyway.
