That's kind of interesting I guess, I know a lot of people were wearing masks when that swine flu thing was going around but since then it's only Japanese tourists that I've seen with them.

After my sister a while back had some surgery a while back, our family was provided with a vast amount of these masks so as to not infect her with any diseases, but I stay inside mostly, so there has not really been a reason for me to wear a surgical mask outside; perhaps I could take advantage of the winter season and go out wearing a mask now just for the sake of wearing a mask, since I could just say that I am protecting myself against the flu if questioned about it

Honestly, this is exactly why I never go outside anymore. It just becomes too much to stand, but wearing a mask in public in the West would just make me more mysterious and enchanting than I already am and end up worsening the problem.

I live in japan and wore a mask on the subway a few times but my gaijin nose is too big for it to fit properly. it is good fun wearing one though.

I'm guessing you two are joking, but being attractive can be very uncomfortable at times. Girls try to talk to me or slip me their number or ask if i want to go do something (complete strangers, I think it's the weirdest thing), etc., etc. I have no idea how to respond to half of that stuff so I mostly just mumble a single word answer or "no thank you" and try to escape.
I would like to wear a cool mask in public, I have a hoodie that zips up to cover my nose and mouth, but it looks pretty ghetto. When I'm sitting down I pretty frequently will pull my shirt up to cover at least my mouth.

I was the first post and while I exaggerated a bit for comedic effect so I am liked in /jp/, I am not joking.
I really also hate when girls approach me, since I am handsome they don't expect me to be a sperg, and the embarrassment from being approached like that and not being able to respond is horrible.
It was worse in high school and thankfully that is a few years behind me now. Girls were way too forward, taking sips of my drink, grabbing my arm or touching my chest or falling into me thinking I'm going to catch them so they can steal a hug and instead I freeze up and they trip and it gets really awkward.
It's not all bad though. I'm pretty sure people only cover for me or offer help and compliments all the time because of it. Being good looking is the only thing I have in my life. Good thing I'm a man, women age horribly.
