But why? I'm not saying it isn't, I genuinely don't understand why. It's 2012, sex is fine. People go to clubs and fuck each other and regret it. Why is that just chalked up as a silly mistake whereas being raped is this massively uncomfortable thing we should all speak about in hushed tones?

Note that I'm not saying rape is fine. It's a serious type of assault and the people who do it should be punished. But what I don't get is why rape is seen so harshly compared to other crimes, or what's intrinsically bad about a crime being sexual, especially if nobody gets pregnant from it.
