How are the re-releases? I love this game, but I have to admit I'm a little bitter based on what I've seen of Nicalis's versions. They lack the pixel-arty, one-man charm that the original had.

In what sense? The voice actors Disney hire are pros, to the point where it's a little annoying. They emote and act well, the only problem I have is that they cast adults as teenagers as children.

Also I was a little pissed off at the airship crew scene in Laputa. In the original the crew were infatuated with Sheeta and brought her flowers. In the Disney dub, despite making her sound five years older, that was deemed inappropriate so they made it sound like the crew viewed her as more of a mother figure.
I have to admit, it was a clever way to mask cultural differences, but it was also arbitrary and reminded me why I hate baka gaijin.

Kiki's delivery service was the only dub I could tolerate. Totoro's dub was terrible.

Howl's moving castle could've been better too. Howl sounds like Char Aznable in the japanese original, and not nearly as cool in the Dub.

I never said the Japanese dub is good. You're right, I don't know Japanese well enough to judge the quality of their voice acting, which is great, since there's a good chance it's about as cringeworthy as the English voice acting (not that I know for sure, but it's likely).
