I think some of the most realistic explosions and combat in general in a movie was in Children of Men.

If I was in a war I'd be too scared to use my weapons because they're expensive. I mean, you throw a grenade, that's at least $30 you could have spent on a nice jacket. You fire a few bullets, there's $10 you could have gotten some sock with.
