I liked them, the pacing was very nice. I like to think of the 0079 and Zeta movies like reading a book (the series) to watching the movie of the book.
The movie wont be good unless you already read the books, or you'll lose a crazy amount of character development that makes the characters likeable and attaches you to them.
I guess if someone only watched the movies, they would think the series sucked though.

I miss Gundam. After I finish watching evagelion, I'll watch whatever I can.
