I think people just want to talk about Japanese. While there are obviously many other places to talk about it, there aren't many other places to talk about it with other /jp/ users than /jp/.

>>10116745
If your goal is just to read and never write, then you may as well start drilling vocabulary, you'll absorb the kanji readings naturally.

>> No.10116787

Is there anyone here who has gone through learning how to write kanji/vocab but after awhile just gave up and solely focused on reading only?

I have no real reason to write anything. My amount of cards due will be drastically reduced if I suspend the writing ones.

>> No.10116798

>>10116787
I study kanji by looking at its meaning and then writing it once. So I get writing practice, but I don't write them some huge amount of times, and it sticks in my memory through SRS (I of course write it a few extra times when I first learn it). Knowing how to write kanji is very helpful since it helps me to understand how they are composed and break them down. If I see some type of calligraphy and I can't understand it I can figure out the stroke order and probably get it then. I never study from looking at then kanji and then giving its meaning or reading. That can come from reading actual Japanese.

Honestly, I cannot see myself ever writing in japanese, and if I do, it would be online using an IME.

Also I had Subway for lunch. I had a bacon chicken and ranch melt but it wasn't very good. Also had some sun chips with it since I haven't had any in years but I didn't like them either. The sun was in my eyes the entire time and it was a bad experience.

I was planning on doing a 30-minute run first thing in the morning tomorrow. Hopefully I can forget the fact it's going to be unbearably cold, so it doesn't hold me back...

Otherwise, I just got a PS3 today so I'm not doing much else. Some work later, but it's the weekend.

>> No.10117070

Is there any real difference between RTK and KD anki decks if im just planning on reading VN's?

>> No.10117180

How are most of your anki cards set up for vocab?

Mines:
--front--
vocab in kanji (unless its a kana only word)
example sentence
--back--
vocab reading + definition

The example sentence really helps me remember what the hell the definition is for some words that are just kana only.

I was thinking about making MCD cards but I'm not too sure about it.

>> No.10117243

>>10117180

I was also considering changing my card layout. Originally it was just the word in kana on the front of the card, but I changed them all to kanji. I feel like having the vocabulary word and the example sentence on the front would indeed make it much easier to remember words, but at the same time I feel like it might become too easy and draw away some of the focus on the word. I guess I'll just give it a try sometime.

Can you guys recommend me some more decks please?

I have the kana down pat, and now for kanji all I have is "Basic Kanji Books vol 1 2" and Heisig. I need some more kanji decks and probably some for grammar/conjugation
