ITT corporate NEETs

I needs more tips and tricks on how to pretend I'm working while I'm at the office. Sitting in front of the computer all day while doing nothing is really boring and tiring... most of the time I find myself dozing off, but I can't sleep because my boss could see me and get me fired. I've tried going on low profile imageboards like TC (if I visited one with lots of racist crap and porn I'd probably get fired) but the IT guy who's a total dick blocked them. I've tried going window shopping on ebay, craiglist, and hobbysearch, and it's not really fun. Lately I've just been reading manga (for some reason he hasn't blocked any online readers) but it's exhausting because I have to turn around every couple minutes to make sure my boss hasn't left his cubicle. Is there anything else to do?

If your workplace doesn't have a Facebook and Twitter, then one can give a quick presentation on 'Integrated Marketing Techniques for the Social Network Market'. Even if they do, if they're not actually using it to talk to consumers on a one-to-one basis, then this tactic could also work.

Give some proposals talking about 'creating an easily accessible and bi-directional virtual area where the consumer can seek out and subscribe to information, give feedback in a controlled environment, develop a rapport, and advertise the company for free' or something to that. Impress your boss with buzz-phrases like 'organizational culture', 'emerging media', 'remix culture', 'crowd-sourcing' and 'consumer empowerment'.

Add some quickly googled information and cite statistics about social experiments, cater to the fact your boss is probably some Baby Boomer or Early Gen-Xer put off by Internet culture, and you might be able to blog as part of your job. The non tl;dr version, with all lingo needed to appear savvy, is here, but it's mostly common-sense for anyone born after 1990: http://www.scribd.com/doc/94790229/Marketing

There will always be a need for jobs no matter how many people there are since everyone needs stuff, it's just a matter of how much people are willing to pay you to do something.

Minimum wage is the main reason we have such high unemployment. There are jobs there, they're just not worth paying someone $6/hr to do. Therefore, people without useful skills are out of work. On the other hand, people with useful degrees like engineering or CS are clamored after.

If there was no minimum wage then the $10 an hour jobs people live off of would all drop down to $5 an hour. Then you have families starving because they can't get a high enough paying job to afford anything. The only ones that truly benefit from an abolishment of minimum wage are business owners who are now free to pay their workers pennies. Sure this would be good for small business but the primary beneficiaries would be corporations. Nah. You're incorrect in assuming all people are princesses like you who only work if they're paid ridiculously inflated wages. There's an immense amount of people who are only unemployed because employers cannot afford to pay them minimum wage and would absolutely love to work for below that. The problem is if a wage is set to the lowest amount someone is willing to work for, then another guy sees it and does the same. Next thing you know you have millions of people out there being paid chump change to produce things and are reduced to Chinese living standards. Corporations would abuse the fuck out of it and to supplement all the rampant starvation and what not the government would have no choice but to shift towards a more socialist model.

>> No.10108609

>>10108583
Cute, but that's not how the economy works, sorry. Firstly, you have to understand that things in the economy do not work independent of each other. In the unrealistic scenario you proposed, everyone is "working for chump change" and logically, has little to no disposable income. Such a situation would result in drastically reduced demand for all but the most basic goods, which means that, guess what, the evil corporations lose more money than they save by paying those evil low wages. Thus wage rates are never set too low, as you know, the workers spend those wages back on the goods and services produced by the corporations. Not to mention, it's far better for the economy to have people working below minimum wage instead of leeching off welfare. It's funny you should mention Chinese living standards though, because guess what corporations are doing thanks to the minimum wage, they're outsourcing millions of jobs to foreign workers because it's cheaper. As a result, more Americans are unemployed and on welfare, and the standards of living keep dropping.

But seriously, take an economics course of two before arguing any further.

That's exactly how wages are supposed to work, genius. If people are willing to work for that wage then they will. It's voluntary on each end. Also, just because one guy is willing to work for $4/hr doesn't mean everyone is, so employers will be forced to raise the wage for others to take the job.

Also, you seem to be forgetting about a little thing called unpaid internships that are a direct result of minimum wage. Nobody is going to pay an intern minimum wage, so instead they pay them nothing. I would much rather get $1-$6 an hour than 0.
