Hey /jp/,
I was wondering if anyone has made a Touhou fumo at home?
A few days ago I lost contact with someone from /jp/ that created homemade fumos. It inspired me to try my hand at making some, but I’m not very crafty. Does anyone have tips and tricks? And if the person I was talking to sees this thread, I miss talking to you. ;_; pls respond ;_; pls…
TL;DR: How2make 2hu fumo@truNEET#home

No, I haven’t started making anything yet. I just wanted to see if anyone had experience with choosing fabrics, stiches, etc. From what I’ve read on here the fabric is similar to a felt or a velvety texture. Or how to make the eyes by hand, I would assume buttons would be the easiest, but I don’t think touhous have button like eyes.

OP they are just constructed of cheap felt and I'm assuming polyester for the dresses. With ribbons and stuff.

I doubt you'd be able to embroider the eyes with a similar level of detail, so you would need to just do whatever works. It's going to look different anyway

The person I talked to said they didn’t like cosplaying touhou, so if that’s what you’re talking about I don’t think it’s the same person. The person I talked to was one of the most delightful people I’ve ever met, but stupid connection issues made me lose contact with them. I’ve been looking for them for the past 3 days, almost non-stop, I fear I’ll be in Gensokyo from starvation and sleep deprivation at this rate ;_; which wouldn’t be so bad but I haven’t done my reps and I’ll never hear from my /jp/ friend again.
>>10085761
How have you made them so far? Anything you’d advise against or any success stories?

That’s my fear about the eyes, I don’t care so much that they won’t be carbon copies of FumoFumo™, but I don’t want them to look like wonky monsters instead of pure maidens in frilly delightful dresses.
>>10086456
I’m worried to go to other boards, they’re full of bullies that don’t appreciate the wonder and fun of “too-shits”.
Thank you to everyone that has posted in my thread, I normally feel uncomfortable posting, but /jp/ has shown once again to be a lovely board and I’m happy to be here!

>How have you made them so far?
I've made only the body. I still don't know how to sew together body and the head (which looks kind of creepy and awful actually) without making threads visible. I want head to look circular, not flat... but if I'll make it circular, it's too difficult to make hair ;_;
>Anything you’d advise against
just think about the project over 9000 times and make sure you can do it. don't think like 'I will figure it somehow later (when you're making parts already)'. it might be a huge waste of time and fabrics, everything might be fucked up.

>> No.10086679

>>10086625
Make the body, leaving a slit in the back. Turn the head and body inside out, then sew the head to the body. This will give you a nice seam. Turn the whole thing right-side out using the slit on the back of the body. If you sew the slit sloppily, it will just be covered by clothes.

>>10089700
I think that it might help with sitting, but I don’t think it would be as fun to carry around and play with, and I don’t think beans would fill the body and head enough to make it look solid. But I think it’s a good idea to maybe add some weight to the bottom to help it stay up.

A dog probably wouldn't be easy, but you could try some other simple stuff, like one of those PC98 ghosts. I remember someone made some small power and point item pillows. Figuring out basic sewing would work well with something like that.

Also, I posted something over in the OC thread.

More material. It would probably be a little easier, really. On a small one, a mis-stitch is more apparent.

not really a fumo since I cannot sew in the face details. I couldn't find the material either just typical craft felt. Made it quite some time ago I think when these things first came out some 4 years ago? It is small fits in the palm of your hand and remains unfinished in some box somewhere when I last moved.

uh, dunno
Maybe do not sew your fingers?
Given the thing is tiny Id suggest being careful in stuffing it since the craft felt does not take to stress very well.
Try like hell to find some sort of fabric that does not require hemming. It was a pain to do those bloomers and some of the other parts since I used scraps. Fabric choice is important if you cannot find no hem fabric, avoid anything that frays easily. Try to use only cottons.
When sewing the felt do not use a lot of pressure on the foot. Keep the stitches light then when you go to stuff the doll there is less of a chance of tearing the seams.
Accept you are going to have to hand sew and blind stitch a lot of crap.
Google doll making and similar shit.
Go simple with parts.
Plan it out on paper
and do not make it as small as I did.
Be very careful with the iron, youll need it to do the hems and crap. (maybe getting one of those small detail irons will help save the fingers)

I would do many things different on mine now that fumo images are more available. Back then I only had the marketing images to go by to make a pattern.

>>10115226
I guess yarn hair does that.
>>10115130
I cannot do embroidery well on this machine and the craft felt would not take the abuse.
>Why not make a bigger one
lazy

I would love to find some proper fabrics closer to what the fumo are made of so I could avoid having to hem everything not to mention the failure that is craft felt. Maybe other sewfags could help more with fabric names or types used or where it was purchased. I live on the west coast so it is mostly a few random independent stores, michals, jo-annes, and hancock. (sorta depends on northwest or southwest. Seattle had more choice vs calif (sanjose sacramento)

Sewing and such in general just seems fun and you can make really cute things.
