Hey /jp/? I recently came into some money... A lot of it, actually. I don't have to work another day if my life if I care to.

I plan to put most of it in CD's, savings accounts and just live off the yields, but I have about 100,000 I can spend immediately if I care to.

After I get myself a new car, what should I spend it on? Custom made Touhou sex doll? You tell me.

You are not used to a hedonistic lifestyle, anon. Starting now could corrupt your soul forever. I've seen it happen, you know all the fables and parables of people coming into alot of money or a great treasure. Trust me, this is a blessing and a curse. Give alot of it to hungry people, pic related, it looks good on your resume in the afterlife or valhalla or wherever. Keep some, give a lot, plus then your tax bracket will go down.

Truth. Being rich means not having to work -and- getting praised by society for being such a kind soul for making regular large donations (but only a tiny drop in the bucket percent-wise of your vast riches) to charity.

Just go that route. Anybody who claims that they would give all or most of the money away is a jealous liar.

>I plan to put most of it in CD's, savings accounts and just live off the yields
This is a dumb idea. CDs and savings accounts are horrible. For long term savings your best bet would be to invest in high aggressive mutual funds. These type of funds are best meant for a long period of time, say 30 years. And don't put it all in at once. Put like $100 a month or something. Since the market fluctuates you can get more for your money that way.

I would also suggest getting a Roth IRA if you live in the US.

Now for short-term what you can do is open a money market account and get a card linked to that account. This way you get a better interest rate than a typical savings account.

>And don't put it all in at once. Put like $100 a month or something. Since the market fluctuates you can get more for your money that way.
What I mean by this is put in the minimum required to start the fund or whatever amount you feel comfortable with over that. Then add $100 to it every month.

Mutual funds are generally not performing up to snuff right now. They'll bounce back eventually, no doubt, though. Personally I'd recommend fixed or equity indexed annuities. That way the OP has no risk of losing what money he has, and will generate considerably more interest than if he was using CD's. Plus, annuities are designed with the idea of lifetime income in mind.

It entirely depends on the scope of the first project and the engine chosen. Indie sized startups can go for less than $10,000 and get everyone the tools and software we need if we stick with indie-friendly game engine soloutions like torque game engine, the indie license for havok, houdini and the like. For a full sized AAA startup or console development the costs quickly rise. 3d studio max commercial licenses are 3495.- a pop and we'd be best off to have at least 4-5 artists. Additional products like ZBrush(we already have one commercial copy of that) add another ~500. Plus the costs for the development environment. On the plus side most of us are willing to do work for as cheap as we are able to live and pay the bills yet enjoy this type of work enough to still produce quality work.

All team members except one are in the US.

Our preferred course of action would be to found a company together sooner or later anyways. We work GREAT together as a team and really complement each other. We've learned a lot on past projects and feel we're finally ready to tackle something bigger. We'd ideally be working together on this until retirement.

Mutual funds are for long-term investments. So it doesn't matter if you lose out on some money in the first few years. Since the point is that you won't be touching it till like 30 years down the line anyways. And by then you would've more than already made back whatever your lost and then some.

Some people don't realize this and expect large returns right away when that's not how it works.
