In general I think that urban, or suburban, Japanese streets are less well lit than in many western cities, partly because they usually use white street lights and few of them.

Yeah, it's awful in the US, how hard it is to get a good white light. My family likes yellow lights and it is going to drive me insane some day. I'm glad I was allowed to replace the bulb in my room. Every study ever has shown that white lights are better for people's health than yellow lights.
