Man, this thread is a testament to how people who have never worked on an actual farm imagine rural life to be - bucolic, idyllic, sipping crystal clear mountain water while selling your bounty to the locals. with plenty of free time for taking it easy. It's cute. I bet the most agricultural work most of you have done is mowing mom's lawn.

An actual farm is smelly, muddy, dirty and huge.
Still sometimes better than living in cramp places like cities.

And fighting parasites, pests and vermin, dealing with uncooperative weather, endless repairs and upkeep of land and equipment, the backbreaking work of doing this without any major farming equipment, and continuously working from dawn to dusk, at which point you want to collapse. I suppose they could try and bribe some local hick teenagers to do some basic chores, but they're still going to have to take care of the heavy lifting. Which never ends.

It's a lot easier in the US. There are machines to do everything. You literally just pay for fuel and repairs and your farm works for you.

Look, I lived my childhood in a rural area, and even if I never worked in a farm, I can tell you I'll prefer to walk into mud at six oclock everyday than spending all my day getting fat in an office, lobotomizing myself on a factory machine, or smiling to people forcedly in a shop. and I tell you from dorect experience
don't assume that there's no people who would find more sense of realization watching a sunset in the fields after a day spent shoveling cow shit than in a fucking happy hour and tv just because they have no experience.
rather, probably they're the ones that can appreciate it the most

Well some of you guys are talking about rice farming, for example. In the mountains. This means that before you can even begin, you need to dig out terraces. Are you going to bring your own backhoes and bulldozers? Probably not. So expect months of diggingdiggingdigging without planting a thing. Then when it comes time to plant, you guys do know rice grows in shallow water that you have to stoop down to plant, inspect and sow, I hope. And that's without even thinking about having to deal with water parasites, disease, keeping the terraces in shape and so forth. You could pick fewer more difficult crops to choose in the worst terrain for it.

You'd be better off trying to start an orchard of some kind, but the first pay off from that is like 2-5 years down the road, depending on the fruit. Also, maybe beekeeping, if you're not afraid of getting stung now and then.
