i just realized whoever made that chart actually read twinkle crusaders thanks to noticing an obscure little detail

こんにちは、guys. I just found out about this thread and I would like to share my "method"
I don't like any formal tutoring, so I jumped right onto reading.
I found a light 小説 I wanted to read on itazuranekko.

I mark a sentence and see if there is 漢字 I dont know. If there is, I immediately write that 漢字 down from a couple of times to even 10 times in a row (depending on the complexity of the 漢字). I don't care about stroke order, since I'm not a native 日本語 speaker and dont intend to pretend to be.

Finished with the new 漢字, I paste the sentence on google translator and, through a lot of try and error, I manage to separate the words and write down the meaning for individual words. I then read the sentence a couple of times.
I've been doing this for more than 3 weeks now and I can feel my japanese improving! 頑張って ne

Please share your methods and make recomendations to improve mine, if that's okay to ask here.

what’s the point of practicing writing at all if you don’t care about stroke order? that’s just gonna make things harder as you encounter more difficult kanji, instead of easier like it would be if you got stroke order down correctly

it really hurts because i genuinely think BNHA has some of the best art in any ongoing shonen manga but i just can't read that shit at all. the way the narrative always treats him like a victim, characters forgive him for no reason no matter what a bitch he is, just no.
ougamadoki zoo was better... isn't an accurate statement, but at least the aquarium arc was pretty good and the characters were okay.

the main thing that's funny about this chart to me is the "expected reading times" on a beginner chart. if you're picking your first vn you can expect the duration to be 2, 3, or even 4x what they say to expect.
t. coming up on 100 hours in baldr sky and only just now finished getting my first ending for nanoha.

What do you mean "seriously" ? In his November patreon q and a he said he used passive immersion all the time when he was going hard on ajatt when he was in school. Its my understanding that he makes the distinction that passive immersion in itself isn't beneficial, but if used with material you've already watched/listened to it can have good benefits.

yea i wanted to drill certain important grammar points over the past month or two so i set the maximum interval to 2 weeks but i think i'm willing to worsen my retention a bit to keep the reviews down. most of the grammar i'm forgetting is stuff i'm not encountering much or at all while reading so i think it'll be OK.

You shouldn't have a reachable interval limit. Anything you forget will be failed and have its interval lowered appropriately. Anything you don't fail will continue to grow. That's the whole fucking point.

Took me pretty much the entire day of non-stop reading, but I managed to check off another route. Just one more to go now. Hopefully I can finish that tomorrow and move onto something new at long last. I've been reading this VN since mid November of last year, whereas I should've finished it in early-mid January.

I have enjoyed this VN (君が主で執事が俺で) a lot though, which might not be very obvious from the fact that I took a three month break from it and am seemingly eager to finish it. If I didn't like it, I wouldn't have been able to spend the last 3 days straight doing pretty much nothing but reading it non-stop all day. There's a lot of good humour and the characters are all great, and for anyone who likes collecting 四字熟語 there are absolutely tons of them in this. Difficulty-wise, it's not Hanahira or Flyable Heart tier easy, but it's not all that hard either. Definitely recommend it to anyone who has a couple of VNs under their belt and is looking for something new to read.

sometimes i forget the term only part of the way through a long interval. by the time i see the word again i could have gone weeks or months without having known it. so i temporarily shortened the maximum interval to practice them more frequently.

displaying the intervals doesn't help you learn at all it just makes you pick based on what you feel like

here is a tip for all u dekinais out there, whenever you come across a manga page or a paragraph you can't read that well yet, save it and try after a few months. the hit you get after realizing you are improving helps w/ motivation
