The gameplay in KM is almost non-existent. In Kakumei they made it a bit more in depth compared to the other games but that doesn't mean anything it's still braindead simple. If the battles weren't also short that would be annoying but they only take a couple of minutes.

I'm kinda torn there. To me, if they add gameplay, it should lead to something. Why else do you have it in a VN? So if you can skip it with an option and not miss much at all, what's the point?
A good example of very minor gameplay that adds something is Inganock. It's just minor puzzles, essentially, which a walkthrough can solve for you if you want to. Doing well there basically gives a bunch of background information about all kinda stuff. It's a gimmick, but like this it doesn't feel so weird to have this random information "dumped" at you, as you kinda.. unlock it one by one? Something like that. And if you don't care, you only need to get the "main" scenes, that are required.

The games have gameplay because they are RotTK IP games and so at least attempting to do something is expected, I mean even the name is a clear riff on Dynasty Warriors. To their credit the gameplay has improved since the original even if it's still super easy and simple, and now in Kakumei everyone (except MC) can be a general and they all have their own little unique skillsets and battle voice lines, and people cut in for some dialogue mid battle.

I can see it being more immersive to actually do the minigame to beat Wei at Chibi instead of a line of 'and then our army won' but honestly if you did decide to skip you wouldn't be missing anything. There's no bonus for doing exceptionally well, anything really important that happens mid battle will cut into VN style for it, and if you have even a passing knowledge of RotTK none of the battles will have any surprises.

More heroines need to fuck other dudes.
