chapter 5 is special in the sense that it's a reiteration of chapter 2 but told from a different perspective. the main thing I didn't like about meaekashi is that we just didn't learn much new information, it was so straightforward. after you learned that shion loved satoshi and that she was behind the entire incident everything played out exactly as imagined. sure, it's a retelling of ch.2 so there's a limit to how many new things can be revealed to the viewer, but it was still a bit disappointing when the chapter ended and the only new things I learned was that rika was actually the one who brought the secret drug and mion's uncredible claim that the sonozaki family actually never comitted any of the murders. the first part where we meet satoshi as shion and learn about him was interesting of course, finally being able to meet the boy who was quite central in the story. seeing the tragic development of shion was touching, but I didn't sympathize with her really. she became too sadistic, the way she just ignored satoshi's last wish and developed into a demon that wished herself that someone would stop her was quite excessive. what particularly disappointed me was how simple the solution of the paradox of keiichi getting stabbed and shion falling down the building was explained. I was also disappointed that the line "Yes, I made it in time! I managed to kill everyone I wanted to kill!", which shion said after stabbing keiichi, was a nothingburger after all. I had the theory that this indicated that the killings on the nights of watanagashi were some kind of game where one has to kill some specific people within a time limit, but in the end it were the delusional ramblings of the demon within shion. I don't want to shit on ch.5 too much, I just loved the other chapters more, that is all.
