Ever since this アイドル戦国時代 started they've been getting headlines and coverages on entame newspapers on a daily basis, AKB has a fucking newspapers weekly supplement being sold together with Nikkan Sports, Sponichi had a daily special for the entire length of AKB's general elections, Tokyo Sports is in direct collaboration with Alice Project. while newspapers like Asahi have their own daily idol column since years.
In case you don't get it already, idol coverage in Japan is mainstream on par with reportages about TV talents, actors, sportsmen and pro-wrestlers. Open a fucking news site sometimes and you'll notice.
