If you think of it like a list, it's pretty simple. The urge to breed is at the top of it; it's essential that we reproduce to survive as a species - doesn't really matter with who or what as long as you make babies. If you go a level below that, you have your actual standards to find a "good" mate (AKA someone who can actually raise your babies and otherwise just be a reliable partner).

If a woman spread her legs and told you to give her 8 babies, no strings attached, most guys probably wouldn't have the will to resist. It's like that. The need to make babies generally trumps rational thought, and so, a horny woman who wants to have lots of sex is an attractive immediate partner which relieves the urge to mate with something and potentially carry on your genes.

Having sex and reproducing is basically the endgame to living as far as nature is concerned, everything else is pretty much secondary, so our needs are like that. Having sex with what's easily available is better than no sex at all, since in nature the next time you'll be able to mate is never a guarantee.

Anyway, this is just what I remember reading about some years ago. That concludes my seminar which definitely wasn't just an excuse to rant about sex.
