Miko can hear a human's ten desires. Every human has ten desires. Through knowing a human's ten desires, she can deduce mostly everything and it becomes mind reading in that sense.
Youmu for instance is said to have eight desires. Miko says she lacks attachment to life and envy of death, because she is a Netherworld denizen.
Because Miko only sees eight desires in this case, she is completely mistaken about Youmu and thinks she's a hermit, too.
