I'm here as an English teacher, but I plan on living here for the next several decades at least. I was really fortunate with my placement in that I live in a beautiful small town and my students and fellow Japanese teachers are phenomenal (for the most part). Being so recognizable can be a bit of an issue - I must be on my best behavior at all times and folks stop to talk to me quite a lot when I just want to hurry home. Other than that (and being a world away from my family), it's a dream.

When you get to the point of planning specifics for your trip, the folks over on /trv/ have some decent suggestions (if you bring something to the table yourself, not just "hey guise, wat can I do in japn?").
