How hard would an oni be able to throw beans at you?

You know how Yuugi has a star on her horn?

How did it get there? It can't have been grown naturally. Is it some kind of horn tattoo? Wouldn't that wear out? Is it a sticker?

Perhaps making yourself (visually obviously) inedible would be a worthwhile pursuit.

For all their great mystical powers and love of competition, oni are not beyond acting like scrubs occasionally. There are ways around the whole weakness with the beans, but it seems they just couldn't bother with one.
It seems the whole cultural code of fair play oni have really overrides everything.

Come to think of it, in Tenchi's "flashbacks" Ryoko always seemed to look like a classic Japanese demon, long horns, huge mop of hair, wicked grin up to the ears and everything.
Guess in the 80's and 90's, oni from space was the fashionable thing. Takahashi's influence runs deep.

Other than that, possibly creativity. Oni don't really ever invent anything, or have any unique cultural traits.

Essentially the same tendencies you see a lot in modern sci-fi and fantasy - when you pick separate stories out of folklore, they often reflect the culture of their time.

Is it ever explained WHY the beans hurt them?
It just seems like a strange weakness.
