She's also in complete peace in the anime. The "suffocation" doesn't happen until later when Rika starts to realize that the whole thing is suspicious due to things like Takano giving up and none of her friends committing any atrocities. The manga skips those events completely, but it doesn't matter because Rika finds out Satoko's the culprit anyway in the same manner as the anime. So in both the manga and anime, Rika starts out being perfectly happy with Hinamizawa and ends up realizing she was being gaslit.
