The foundations that I had in place from the previous entries for approaching Umineko were as follows:
1. The supernatural exists as a fact, as evidence by Hanyuu, the Meta-Verse and Bernkastel's character.
2. Bernkastel also shows up in Umineko, together with the rest of the concepts associated with the Meta-World, which means that Umineko takes place in the same universe.
3. Since it's all taking place in the same universe, the same rules concerning the supernatural must also apply here.

Therefore the whole magic vs mystery argument and things related to it seemed completely meaningless to me from the start, except from the perspective of some arbitrary logic puzzle thing, which really didn't spark my interest at all.
