Learning is a universal phenomenon. Learning and forgetting both take time. Learn a little, forget quickly. Learn a lot, forget gradually. Learn after forgetting something, forget much slower next time. Need for review is gradually spaced out more and more with repetitions. Switch between learning and forgetting when either curve reaches asymptotic levels for optimal results.
