I do sometimes think about that. For a lot of people, it didn't have to happen in the far future. Whoever wanted to see Baki animated for example back in the 90s could have died well before the 2018 anime. Or Jojo.
Dragon Ball had supposedly ended with Z or GT depending on your views back in 1996, hundreds of thousands of people must have died wanting to see their characters return (and it was probably for the better).

Higurashi itself works as an example. Whoever saw the 2006 anime and wished for a sequel (I know I wanted an adult witch Rika series) could have died of illness or accident way before 2020, or simply grew out of anime and formed a family.
But yeah, someone in a century will hold the rights to the current biggest media franchises, the stuff we'd love to see will be realized at some point and we might not be here anymore.
We can only conclude to enjoy as much as you can while you're still alive.
