Things weren't always like this. In the dark age, before the advent of the Friends of Fairies society, relations with nature's most adorable creatures wasn't all that good.
They were regarded as minor nuisances at best, and horrid semen thieves at worst. Calls for a fairy genocide became increasingly frequent, and all of Gensokyo may have ended up destroyed had the Friends of Fairies society not intervened. Through their rediscovery of ancient fairy magics, they found a means to vastly improve the efficiency of fairy life energy transfer.
Rather than simply consuming the semen, they're now able to absorb and process it into life force directly. This life force is then empowered by nature and redistributed to the male itself, improving stamina, semen production, and semen potency, thus creating a feedback loop that allows for effectively infinite life force gain, or at least until the male's fairy partners are fully satisfied and move their attention elsewhere, while the male's reproductive capability reaches optimal condition, ensuring that their lovely human wives face no shortage of semen.
Naturally, many youkai objected to the Friends of Fairies society's efforts at first, but as they had the backing of powerful youkai such as Kazami Yuuka and Letty Whiterock, as well as the sages, and even the Hakurei shrine maiden (though some claim that she only does so because as a popular fairy field, people often donate to the shrine while they're headed there), dissent against the society's noble activities quickly stopped, with only utterly degenerate groups such as the tengu continuing their libelous activities.

So there you have it. The history of how the Friends of Fairies society managed to rehabilitate the reputation of everyone's favorite winged friend-shaped miracles of nature and save Gensokyo in the process. Doesn't everyone love a happy ending?
