Youtube had a pseudo-chat overlay once.
It was hilariously abused.

It let viewers make their own "annotations" on top of videos. It might even still exist.
It basically led to full-video annotations at the maximum time they can stay open (forgot how long, 5 seconds I think)

That means without login. That is ALL it has ever meant.
You anonfucks corrupted the meaning.

If you were here from 2004, you would know this site was perfectly fine while in trips for the first few years before it started falling out of favour for all the massive influx of new people from hearing about Habbo raids from 2006 onwards.
Before then the new users were manageable and actually lurked instead of shitfisting their way in.

You are absolutely correct in that it IS Elitism that kept this place sane.
People coming in posting with a trip were EASY to single out because you actually had an ID.

But, of course, the thing lost on people is trips are JUST AS Anonymous as Anonymous posting is.
I had 20 trips since 2004. Last actively used one was a gamedev one in 2013 before /agdg/ went to shit.

Equally the constant forced shitposting that you speak of never really started until forced anonymous happened on /b/.
The only other problem were DESU spamming fags from /a/ because they were mad over being kicked out of /b/.

Also, you can still have anonymous and visible moderation.
The moderation being 100% invisible means 90% of the users of this site will never know what is bad because, lets face it, nobody reads the damn rules.

Lookit, lookit, /v/ was completely fine.
After /b/tards fled from /v/ in 2007 because of Chanology, /v/ died in a month.
/v/ was this picture from the start till that point.
As were most boards.
