I'll add some advice for story-based writing. Take it with a grain of salt:
- Break up paragraphs as needed. Don't worry about 5-8 sentence minimums. When switching general topics or moods, a paragraph change can really emphasize the shift in attention.
- Always make new paragraphs when someone else is speaking dialouge. It very clearly distinguishes between which character is responding.
- Subjects can be intuited as shared between short, consecutive sentences. Be careful: Too many sentence fragments sound repetitive.
- Know your narration POV. First-person and second person are easy, Third person can be limited, omniscient, objective, or sometimes mixed. Understand the difference between 'I', 'You', and 'he/she/it' in narration.
- Use lines, stars, or some obvious symbol if you switch POVs between paragraphs.
Some stuff I've learned through writefagging specifically:
- Writing scene-by-scene fits the character limit. Using the original rape as a reference (not me), the posts follow these four scenes:
>Hana arrives home, finds Anon missing and steps through the gap. Ends with revealing Yukari kidnapped Anon
>Yukari preaches her plan to Hana and prepares to rape Anon; Hana realizes her powerlessness and what Yukari is going to do to Anon
>Yukari actually rapes Anon while Hana watches
>Hana discovers the HSE
All of these posts can stand by themselves despite following a connected narrative. This is very satisfying to read on a Inuit ice-shaving forum
- (This is more for long stories) Don't leave too many posts on cliffhangers. A nice, satisfying end to a scene can give the reader and author time to relax before moving onto the next post. Toutetsu, Yukari and Ran/Chen have been good about cutting down the tension when a major event has passed.
