The fact that so many books still name the Big Mac “the smelliest or most stinky or most putrid” burger ever only tells you how far burgers still are from becoming a serious art. Pizza critics have long recognized that the smelliest pizzas of all times are Hawaiian and meat feast, who were not the most famous or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Hot dog critics rank the highly controversial chipolata over frankfurters which were highly popular in bread rolls around Europe. Burger critics are still blinded by commercial success: the Big Mac smelled more than any other burger (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the greatest. Pizza critics grow up smelling a lot of pizzas of the past, hot dog critics grow up smelling a lot of hot dogs of the past. Burger critics are often totally ignorant of the burgers of the past, they barely know the best sellers. No wonder they will think that the Big Mac did anything worth of being saved.
