A couple of tips for you:
Elona uses pure black (#000000) for transparency, so be sure anything that's black is slightly off (e.g. #010101).
Also, 48*48 is an entire tile. It can look kind of weird if your small pet is drawn bigger than you. (I ended up shrinking my Pokemon down to about half their previous size after seeing them in-game.)
