She struggles under the water.

She's strangely beautiful like this -- thrashing under the surface, throwing up waves and droplets that spray across the room. It occurs to me, strangely, that in this moment of dying, in this strange, blue-white twlight, she seems more alive than she's ever been in the rest of her life.

In this moment, she seems, at last, like a person instead of a doll. I almost want to cry.

Soon, she's silent. She's become like one of her treasured dolls, silent, beautiful, fixed in time in space under a pane of water and light.
